I think we are getting back into butters, corals, and clear spring greens soon. Less muted neutrals and more clear neutrals and brights in home decor. Navy and clear silvers/chromes are also coming back after all the brushed nickel and oil rubbed copper and bronze.

GREENS! I'm into decorating and follow blogs etc...  Take a look at the HGTV Dream Home and you'll see that green is where it's at right now.

It's deeper greens but different shades.  Think emeralds, hunter and other green/blue shades that are really pretty.

You're even seeing green kitchen cabinets.

Aww man. That sounds like the early 90's with the greens and blues and blush. :( The return of Laura Ashley- eek!

Scary!

All the parade/model homes around here are still trending grey. And this is in upper (professional designer influenced) neighborhoods. I think the "trend" in the greys is to decorate with more than cool colors - along with the grey walls, there's a lot of warm toned upholstery, accessories and mixed metals.

I love greens but if not careful they'll be out as quickly as they came in. Green kitchen cabinets, iykwim.

I'm also still seeing greys, but with reds and browns.

I've noticed a lot of black appliances recently.

I think a lot of people have finally gotten tired of all the smears and smudges that stainless shows off.  Black is a nice "not white" alternative.

But have you seen the Black Stainless Steel?  Whoa, is that pretty.

I haven't seen the black stainless but a few years ago I bought a GE dishwasher in slate, which is a matte deep grayish brown that looks great and is very flexible. I totally love the color but the dishwasher has had many problems, starting with tines rusting off starting around 18 months.

I don't like stainless or black and white doesn't work in my kitchen.

I'm definitely over the stainless look. And I miss being able to stick things to my refrigerator. I should've taken a magnet with me when we were refrigerator shopping. But I'm stuck with them because no way I'll replace simply for looks!!

I've never been keen on stainless.  When I first started seeing it, it was whn people started putting industrial appliances in their homes.  They looked kind of neat and serious, and they were really heavy duty stainless steel, and looked it.  And really expensive!

When they started to put them on appliances meant for homes, it was in part to get the "expensive" vibe for less money, but also because industrial appliances aren't actually great in most houses and most homeowners don't need that kind of power - they get really hot, for example, and people get burned.

But - typically they don't actually look like heavy duty appliances, or even like they are really made out of steel.  They look to me like stainless veneer stuck on a regular old stove or fridge.  So ok if the colour is what you want, but they don't have the high-end I really-want-that-stove with the high power gas burners and two ovens vibe.

I have a stainless fridge now, because it was free.  It is huge and in good shape, and it will likely be a long time before I can get rid of it for something smaller and white.

I'm still seeing lots and lots of grey on walls, cabinets, and other décor. Navy blue accessories are being seen paired with a gorgeous green.

For those who don't like gray walls (me) I'm also seeing clean white walls with lots of colorful furnishings. Bright prints, bold pillows, artwork, etc

The colors of aqua and peach and so on were popular in the eighties. They were followed in the nineties by the pinks and grays and navy that is coming in again. I guess I can pull out all the counted cross stitch from the 90s again. Lol.

As re appliances, I've been through white, almond, black and stainless and wood white slapped on stainless. The latter is my favorite but it is HEAVY. I'll never get white or almond again, though, as all the different plastics age at different rates and look really crummy. Black looks like a black hole and is so dominant (maybe black glass look is ok) in a kitchen. I've seen some retro appliances in pink and aqua and gray and by going retro, at least people had fun!!

Ok, after looking at the SW mix, I'm totally reliving my early 1990s apartment with handmedown adobe print hideaway couch.

On the other hand, I totally love the noir color mix, and have used a couple of those colors in this house, but it's too bold to totally layer my house in those colors.

I keep seeing poised taupe everywhere (their color of the year), and I'm just not buying it.

Lol. My entire house is purple like that Benjamin Moore shadow color. Umm, looks like I will be instyle for the first time in my life.

Here's hoping the 70's split-level becomes the next hot trend! I'd sell this House of Many Steps in a hot minute!

I can't say I am really keen on the BM colours, although I do like the colour of the year.

It wouldn't really work in my house though.  It's a little 1960 post war home, those kinds of colours are just too overwhelming.  My friend lived in a flat that could totally handle those darker colours - it had 18 foot ceilings with moldings a foot and a half deep, and big windows and paneling in some of the rooms.  So there was relief from the wall colour.  I've even seen places like that with the moldings painted the same colour as the walls, and it worked because the space was so high.  In my house it would be like being trapped in a box.

I think black can look very modern in a white kitchen.  But I agree, it can be too much otherwise.  I kind of find stainless is similar, it needs to be in a light space.  Recently I've seen it in a lot of these dark wood kitchens (like, with cherry and slate) and it is so stuffy.  It is consistent with a return to the 90s though.

Actually, lately I've been finding the covers of decorating magazines unappealing, and I think this is why.

I like the retro appliances, they are fairly fun.  I'd love a pink fridge.  Mostly I go with white though.  I find I almost pass over white appliances like I don't see them.

I am so sick of the sage/blue-aquaish color that has been so popular the past 10 years.  Any suggestions on what is coming up next?

Really?  That blue green has been popular for 10 years?   You must be on one of the coasts.  In the backward middle, grays were the thing until a couple of years ago and just got into beachy hues.

Funny.

I've finally gotten over the trying to figure out my colors based on various things including (occasionally) trends and the magazines I've read, as well as what stylish people close to me like, and decided that I'm going with exactly what I like no matter what. That's milky white, a medium brown ("hot chocolate with whipped") and the lightish creamy blue (probably the one that the OP wishes would just go away, LOL).  It's what I've loved all these years and I'm finally willing to commit.  I had my husband build me some open shelving in the kitchen that's white, I'm painting the now-straw-colored walls in there white, and while I was going to go with a medium dark gray for the bottom cabinets, I've decided to go with what I know I like and paint them a more brownish gray.  I want to feel happy when I walk in a room, not stylish.  So if you want to come to my house and laugh at my colors,, thinking, "That's so 2000's!" message me for my address and you're welcome to swing by.  :D

I don't like green at all, for decor, so if that's what's coming in next, I'm done for anyway.

I love paint.  We repainted our exterior last year.  It was white as it were, but I chose BM Simply white and I think it's a great color.  It ended up being color the year.  It's white, but a warm white.

I've always loved blues and greens.

I love decorating and all that, but I need someone to fill my bank account!

This is my ultimate stove:

http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/8710535/?catalogId=27&sku=8710535&cm_ven=Google_PLA&cm_cat=Shopping&cm_pla=default&cm_ite=default&kwid=productads-adid^52929353023-device^c-plaid^82946570503-sku^8710535-adType^PLA&gclid=CNW-n_Ti1tACFciCfgodNn4H1g

If I won the lottery I would buy it and have deep cherry cabinets down below and white everywhere else.  Blue/gray granite island.  Creamy granite countertops.  White fridge.  White or counter style Miele dishwasher.  Simple, cool, elegant, functional, beautiful.  And, of course, waaaay out of my price range.

I'm with Milovany, above. I might care enough about style color in a year to get a couple new t shirts or a scarf, but not a wardrobe and certainly not a whole house.

I wear the colors I look good in and I paint the walls a color I look good in, asking the house's permission, of course. Houses have personality and look better in a suitable wardrobe. My last house demanded silver and gold at Christmas--not red and green--and looked wonderful in it, even tho I'm a red and green kinda gal.

I also like kitchens that look like they belong in that particular house.

Our fridge is bright yellow. I think the actual color name is "Safety Yellow" so that gives you an idea. Dh actually spray-painted it that color. A few years ago our fridge died the day before we were leaving town to go to the beach. Dh bought a used one off of Craigslist and when he went to pick it up he texted me that it was white and was that ok. I said sure, it was fine. I'm fairly low-mainteanance about that kind of thing. When he got it here (with some delivery guys he hired), it was not white. Not even close. It was kind of the ugliest beige you can imagine. Even the delivery guy looked at me and said "That's not white." No kidding. We kept it because we had not choice and then dh texted me again from the beach (he comes back early to work) to see if he could paint it. I said sure. The colors of our house are fairly bright so in a weird way it fits in.

It's definitely not stylish but it is a huge conversation piece. Every single person in our house asks about it and laughs at the story. It's become the best icebreaker ever.

We also have a car painted blue and gold with green flames. That's a whole other story. :)

Most won't be able to pull off the dark colors -- they make rooms look small. I have no desire to repaint so we'll stick with what we picked 12 years ago, like it or not!

Interestingly a lot of small rooms looks fantastic in dark colors, but it has to be carried all the way up the ceiling. It makes a difference, as does the kind of lighting. Laurel has some great posts on this, and her blog is my absolute favorite design blog for color and scale:

https://laurelberninteriors.com/2015/07/08/true-or-false-painting-walls-white-will-make-a-room-appear-larger/

On similar points, these painted ceilings are to die for!

One of the best pieces of decorating advice I ever read, was that people should walk into your house and think, "Oh, Milovany lives here." And if that means it's covered in kid artwork, or has Christmas lights on the mantel, bright colors, or pictures of birds everywhere....

It actually helped me let go of the idea of magazine perfect.

I'm sitting here watching Home Alone with my kids and the house made me think of this thread! Green walls, wallpaper and brass EVERYWHERE!

Of course I won't lie. I would give my eye teeth to have that house, brass and all.
