school17777
My goal is to wait until Halloween to turn it on. We are almost there! We haven't turned it on yet, mainly because I am waiting for dh to change the filter on the furnance before we do so. If I turn it on without waiting for a new filter, it gets dusty, or at least I think it does. I have no idea how often we have made it to Halloween, but that is always the goal! If it doesn't get any colder than it is right now, we might be able to make it. It is 60 in the house right now. Who has already turned their heat on? kewb
I made it to this past Sunday. I rarely make it to Halloween but I try every year.
FaithManor
It is 32 degrees outside and snowing. (Hangs head a mopes away silently while reluctantly turning on the heat.) :crying:
Guest
Well we have had about seven inches of snow down for a week and nighttime temps are dropping to about 14 F, so yes, we have been running heat for about a month and a half. Unfortunately our furnace actually broke so heat (for the moment) is coming from our fireplace and is inefficient to dial in. The heater is on our list of things to fix immediately upon conclusion of this election. We are just too busy with the candidate until then :(
SKL
I did because I didn't want our animals to be too cold. Particularly the bird, which is supposed to need a tropical sort of environment. It got pretty chilly the other night.
BarbecueMom
I turned mine on to make sure it's working. It's kicked on a couple times in the early morning, but it's set pretty low. I'm freezing right now. High temp on Halloween will be in the 80s. Welcome to Missouri. If you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes. Twigs
We're still running the A/C; it's in the upper 80's this week. My A/C in the car broke this summer and I still miss it!
Amber in SJ
Not here.....because I live in the Bay Area of California. We average 300 days of sunshine a year so, no heater yet. We are wishing and hoping and praying for some rain for our poor drought stricken state. Once it starts raining we turn on the heater. Guest
Ha! Not us. It's still in the upper 80's here. Still running the AC 24/7. I'm a little envious of those of y'all with cool weather. I would really love to experience seasons one year. Not only the four seasons of warm, hot, hotter, miserable.
Butter
It's Texas. We're in the 80s. I suspect we'll be running a/c for a few more weeks. Even 15 days out the forecast is still in the 70s.
maize
Ours has been on for a few weeks, I'd keep the house cooler if it was just big folks but I don't like to let my littles get cold and they don't like to wear bulky clothes. I'd never wait for my Dh to change the furnace filter, always do that myself. Edited October 26, 2016 by maize
Debbi in Texas
I have a few times, but I should have just put on a sweater. I turn on the electric heater in the bathroom more often.

scrapbookbuzz
It's still in the 90s here. Ugh. Eventually our urban desert will realize it's fall. I hope. Anyone with a cold snap want some visitors??

school17777
I'd never wait for my Dh to change the furnace filter, always do that myself. Ha! I can change it, I just don't remember which direction it needs to face. There used to be arrows so we'd know for sure, but they have rubbed off. Sometimes, the metal thing you pull out gets stuck and I need dh to come pull it out for me anyway. Just easier for him to do it!
wendyroo
Turned it on today. The kids were going stir crazy inside so we all went for a long walk in the nearly freezing rain and I turned on the heat before we left so the house would be "toasty" when we got home. The house had been maintaining a temp right around 60, and the heat is only set to 63, so the comfort in turning it on was mostly psychological. We drop the temp to 56 at night, so it is off again now. Wendy
happypamama
We've had it on in parts of the house for about two weeks but not always continually. DH turned on the heat in our new bathroom so he could see how the tile floor would heat (nicely). Then we turned on the heat a little in the bedrooms because it was chilly at night. He had intended to wait to start the wood burning furnace for a little while longer, but one morning, it was so cold that he had to get it started. It heats our first floor. Then it hit 80+ last week, and I was complaining that he took out the AC units. But both the upstairs electric heat and downstairs wood heat have been running a bit the last couple of days, although I've turned them down some. It is much nicer with the heat on instead of feeling frozen-fingered.
Loowit
We have had it on and off depending on the weather. Some nights it has gotten down to freezing, though most of the time it isn't quite that cold. I get joint aches if I get too cold, so I don't let the house get much below 70 during the day.
Amy in NH
We turned ours on 2-3 weeks ago. It was a high of 37 here today, and has been snowing off and on since Saturday. Edited October 26, 2016 by Amy in NH
redsquirrel
My goal was to make it to Nov 1, but we've got this cold white stuff spitting down from the sky. I have no idea what it is, but I did turn on the heat to ward it off. No head in the bedrooms though, just the downstairs. I usually wait until December or January to turn that on

heartlikealion
Yes, but we have been using heater and A/C in the same day! It's cold in the morning and hot in the afternoon. The past two days dd wore pants in the morning and shorts in the afternoon.

Guest
I'm feeling kind of wussy. When we do run our heater in the winter because oh, maybe it dropped to the 50's, we never let the house get colder than 65 and that's at night! We keep it more like 68-70 during the day. Guess I am a Southern wimp. Probably should stay in Texas. :)
Pawz4me
We have a programmable thermostat so technically our heat and AC are both always on -- we set the temperature parameters and it does the rest. For the most part it's been unusually warm here (ugh!). But the heat has kicked on a couple of mornings.
AmandaVT
We turned ours on 2-3 weeks ago. It was a high of 37 here today, and has been snowing off and on since Saturday. Ditto (and hi neighbor!)

Rachel
We turned it on a couple days last week but it is currently off. When it got to 55 in the house, it came on. If we had already filled the propane tank for the fireplace it probably would have stayed off.
MotherGoose
I'm ashamed to say it in light of the other responses, but morning temps outside got into the 40s, and it got into the low 60s, in the house, and it went on. I'm in the Southern US, and heating is not a big expense for us.

pinkmint
I kinda wish I was turning on the heat. It's only in the 80's though so people are almost able to order their pumpkin spice lattes hot instead of iced. I'm in TX.
Lady Florida.
Our big excitement was a few days when we could turn off the a/c and open the windows. It didn't last long and we're back to 24/7 air conditioning. It looks like we'll be able to turn it off (or way up) at night again next week. ScoutTN
I've turned it on for a few minutes a couple of cool mornings, but it has been warm here and we are still running A/C most days and even some nights.
KatieJ
This past weekend it was chilly here. Saturday am, for the first time I wanted to turn on the heat. In stead I went looking for my slippers. Couldn't find them. Sunday afternoon I ordered new slippers. Wednesdaymorning I gave in and turned on the heat. Wednesday afternoon I found slippers. Wednesday late afternoon my new slippers were delivered.
Farrar
I think I could have held out, but I was in bed in the night and smelled the smell of it coming on, which means dh did it. But he has to be up working in the night, so that's fair. I wonder if our southern hemisphere boardies are turning on their A/C's now...

Zinnia
I usually feel like we turn on the heat around November 1? This year, if we're lucky, I'll need it by December 1. It's been a long, long. hot summer.
AnnE-girl
We have it on, but not high enough to kick in very often. We've had a few frosty mornings and it was in the forties and raining yesterday and today. It's the damp cold that makes it more uncomfortable. FloridaLisa
I actually did. Wimpy Floridian and it dipped here and I just wanted to take the edge off. rose
Ha! I have a wood cookstove so when I cook the heat is on. :) We had a cold snap a few weeks back down below freezing but it's a bit warmer now. Winter's coming though.

Janeway
We are still cursing the a/c guy who ruined our a/c. But heck, since he ripped out the ducts, our heat won't work either when we need it. So, no, we have not turned on the heat yet, don't need it.
Tap
Ours has been on for about a month, but we live in the PNW. I hasn't been particularly cold outside yet, but the damp makes it feel cold. Outside is in the 60s. We keep our furnace at 70, with an occasional bump to 72 to warm the air a bit and then let it settle back to 70.
