hedwigtheowl
I have been using a History of US (pre-history to 1600) for my fourth grader. It is quite detailed but it has been great for pre-history. However, the next two books in the series are way too detailed. Any suggestions about what to use instead? EKS
Agreeing with SilverMoon--the concise version of the Hakim series is excellent (much better than the original).
Heather in VA
I didn't know there was a concise version. Is it still for the middle school ages? Does it leave a lot out to turn it into 'concise'?
EKS
I didn't know there was a concise version. Is it still for the middle school ages? Does it leave a lot out to turn it into 'concise'? It is produced by K12. You can get it used on Amazon. I did a comparison and discovered that it really didn't leave a whole lot out. What is excised is the parts that wander away from the main point. Many times that material is put into a box instead of having its own chapter or whatever. The layout of the concise version is also far better than the original. I can't stand to look at the original (which was a problem when I read the entire thing aloud!). It is much more restful on the eyes and the pictures are beautiful.

The layout of the other one drove me nuts too. I could deal with my political differences with the author but the constant feeling that the book was yelling 'Squirrel!!' was intolerable to me. I'll have to check it out.

Guest
These also look very accessible! They really are. I wish they'd put out a hardback version of them all combined.
