Phone under warranty from manufacturer?

Anyone have any luck with this?  We don't have insurance on DD's LG G4.  It died.  It lights up like it WANTS to turn on and then doesn't.  We bought new batteries for it, no dice.  We took it into our carrier and they gave it a new SIM card, nope.  They suggested we contact LG.  I've read that most people go through their carrier?

Anyone had any success? I hate to be held up for a few weeks when I could just upgrade her phone I guess. :/

We had two Samsung phones replaced by Samsung while under the manufactures warranty. Manufacturer warranties are typically 3 to 6 months from purchase on cell phones.  Give LG a call, but from my experience, plan for a simple conversation to find out if it is under warranty, to last about 30 minutes.

I just recently got my phone back from LG (I also have a G4) and after sending my phone to them, they sent it back within a couple of days. It was quick. My phone wasn't turning on either.

I had a problem with my phone last night and if it reappears I will send it back to them.

WSOD (White Screen of Death)?   We are in Colombia and we no longer buy phones from a carrier. We buy phones that left the factory not banded to any carrier and unlocked.  Brand New phones here have a 12 month manufacturers warranty.    We buy our phones in their retail store, but I noticed on their web site that some of their phones now have an additional warranty, in case of loss/theft/damage.  If we had an issue with one of the 3 phones we've purchased there this year, in warranty, I guess we could take it into the store, but I think that would delay it getting fixed, because then they would send it to the manufacturer (in your case LG) for service.

OP if you can get rid of that phone, I would suggest you look into upgrading your DD to another phone. Preferably to a Samsung or a Motorola or a Lenovo.    The reasons I suggest that are that if it is WSOD that is probably a problem with the Firmware in the phone. If the phone is branded to a carrier, that increases the possibility of glitches.  The other reason is that our family has had no luck with LG products, although my belief, from reading on WTM and from what the man who installed our Samsung Washing Machine last November told us, is that the majority of their products work OK.  My Stepson bought a High End LG phone. This was approximately 6 years ago and I don't remember alll the details. He bought it from a Carrier (Tigo) so it was branded for them by LG.  It was from the start, a Lemon.  I don't know how many times he went back there and was without his phone for a week or 2.  I even sent a letter to the head of Tigo here.  After approximately 6 months, they finally replaced it with another phone. Probably a different brand.  I didn't hear any complaints about the replacement phone.

We know a man who has worked for a Carrier here for many years. Earlier this year, I asked him, "which brands he thinks connect to their towers the best. His response was Samsung, Motorola and possibly LG.  He told me that of the last 5 phones he's gotten, 3 have been Motorolas and 2 have been Samsungs.

We bought 2 Motorola phones and one Lenovo phone (Lenovo owns Motorola Mobility) in the superstore this year.  I am using a 2014 Samsung (low end) that was previously used by a young boy, so it has had a lot of abuse. It works perfectly...

If the LG phone has WSOD, that is something that might occur again, if you are able to get it working again.  If you were here, I would suggest that you take it to our "cell phone doctor" to see if he can find some other cause of what you are experiencing with the phone.

If you switch phones, try to get one that has batteries that are easily removable.  That's a plus.  GL

OP I googled for that model and WSOD.  Please watch this YouTube video. This is another, extremely bad issue with that model. 484,115 views of that video.  That model is obviously very problematic.  I strongly suggest that you replace it with another phone. Preferably another brand.  GL

Yup.  This.

So she has a crack on her upper part of her screen that has been there for a few months.  Doesn't in any way change how the phone works.

The above is what is happening - it will turn on as clear as day and then glitches.  It's obvious it isn't the screen.

They will *not* fix or replace the phone because of the cosmetic damage.  The cosmetic damage voids the warranty of the phone.  Is this dishonest?  Why, yes, yes, it is.  Looks like girlfriend is getting an older iphone because, well, at least their phones aren't crap.  Just sayin'.

(We own three iPhones and a Samsung, this phone was what she wanted because she liked her LG G2, so it's what we got - Dec. 14th.  Now it's worthless.  Sigh.)

BTDT: My Sony Erriccson W300i Walkman phone had been in the water for a few seconds. It worked perfectly after that.  Many months later, it got WSOD (White Screen of Death).  When I took it to the office of our provider (Movistar in Colombia) they saw it had been in the water (a sticker or something inside the phone changes color if a phone has been in or near water) and that voided the warranty.  I had them send it for service. Their "technician" said it could not be fixed. I had them get my phone back from the service center in Bogota and I paid them for that.  After I had taken the phone to them, I searched on the Internet and found the WSOD was a very common problem in that model Sony Ericcson phone.  I did more reading and found a web site in Europe and I paid them about USD $7 and I reinstalled the Firmware.  I used that phone for several years after that, without issues.  I was lucky, because my 12 month contract was going to end in a month or two. Before it ended, I went into their office and cancelled my contract.  They put a lot of pressure on me not to cancel, because I'd been with them for many years, but that "seniority" did not help me with the service issue.  A couple of months later, my wife's contract was up for renewal and we cancelled that too.  Now, we buy phones that leave the factory unbranded to any carrier, "unlocked", in the superstore and have no issues.

They will, use anything that shows abuse, in your case the crack on the display, to void the warranty.

We had another phone, I forget which brand, that we bought from a carrier and when I went into their office and it was my turn, the woman immediately saw the sticker and that it had been wet.  I called my wife and she told me she kept it between her "books" when she is in the house and that's enough to show the phone company a phone has been wet.  Even having one in the bathroom when someone takes a shower can cause a cell phone to show that it has been wet.

I would *NOT* buy an LG phone, but it is unlikely that our family would buy anything made by LG. I suspect there are just as many people who will not buy Samsung products?

In the YouTube video you watched, he indicated they thought at that time that it was a Motherboard defect. That is even worse than having a Firmware issue. Firmware can be flashed, but Motherboards need to be replaced.

I am sorry that you have this issue with the LG phone!

Both of the Motorola phones we bought this year have "Gorilla Glass" displays, which I believe is a huge plus. I'm not sure if the Lenovo phone has Gorilla Glass.

I figure I should have had more sense when getting her case.  I got an Otterbox Commuter when I knew good & well that kid needed a Defender.  Lesson learned, sigh.  She didn't drop it, but while getting out of her car and grabbing books, etc., she "held" the phone in her mouth and her tooth put pressure right up by the speaker and it broke a bit and then webbed some.

When I'm being reasonable I guess I understand their position - if you hurt it and it shows damage then how do we know this isn't a result?

At the same time, if you have a known problem and everyone and their brother are having problems, well, then own the fact that you made a mistake and recall, kwim?
