Critterfixer
Time to go back to school. Not today, though. I got some things done during my week off that should help with the upcoming month of writing. I restructured my housekeeping. I altered the school day to eliminate any overlap in work (replaced WWS with the Creative Writer, replaced Artistic Pursuits with a morning out-of-house art focus once a week) to give myself more time for intense writing effort. I'm looking to improve my word count from 2500 to 3000 or better for a solid month, because I'm writing a sequel and finishing the first rewriting of the first book for NaNoWriMo. :svengo: Today's schedule: Get my writing space set up (maps, story stuff, sketches, notes, etc) Do a spot of cooking Finish history questions for this week, get the daily written schedule for tomorrow. mama25angels
I'm not sure what we're going to get accomplished today as I will need to help my Ds navigate the insurance waters today. He and his buddies were headed to a camp out and hit a deer in the nice new to him car we just got him approximately 3 weeks ago. Yeah, I'm not in the best of moods but I do realize how much worse things good have been and I'm so thankful the deer was the only one injured. I know we're going to get piano lesson done and math, probabl morning time. Will update as I'm able.
Critterfixer
Sorry about that mama25angels. Deer are a plain hazard in my neck of the woods. So glad that your son and his friends are okay. :grouphug:

They leap out at you from every angle, they are so loaded up on hormones and corn. That is a shame about car, though. Hope it all works out with insurance. At least he is okay. Critterfixer
About done. Looks like we are on track for finishing up at 3:30 as I planned. Now we shall see if my plan for cooking and housekeeping works out and leaves me ample hours for writing in the evening.
mama25angels
Critter, I'm so hoping your plan works out! Well, we got quite a bit accomplished today, oldest did an excellent job on his math and a fantastic job on Latin. I did have to remind him that having a cell phone is a privilege and that it is a tool and does not replace human contact. Youngest got his piano lesson, math, spelling and cursive done today. We didn't get to morning time only the read aloud.

MrsRobinson
Glad everyone is ok, mama25! :grouphug: I tried several times to get here yesterday and it just didn't happen. I'm calling this week fall break but it's not really. Dd is still keeping up with math and she started an online writing class yesterday. She will still practice piano every day, too. Ds is still doing phonics and letter practice everyday. I'm calling it fall break so I can let everything else go without the guilt. We have 3 doctor/orthodontist appointments this week. I have a ton of projects I want to get done around the house, a cooking and baking day Friday for feeding a crowd on Saturday. Overnight guests Saturday and more big meals for lots of people on Sunday. So I might not not make it back here this week. We'll see. Maybe I'll come back to brag about all the things I got done!
Tawlas
Morning everyone :) After a hectic weekend and dd's bday yesterday, we should be back to normal today. Although I have a 130 cello lesson by skype and 330 yoga. But I may skip yoga this week. We occasionally need to actually get some school work done! Tawlas
morning :) I'm pretty sure we'll have a normal day today. I'm trying to track down any kind of comparable immersion reading experience in Canada (learning Ally also not available here), but it seems like that's all but impossible. Unless I made an amazon.com account and tried the kindle app? Not sure how that would work out, but it may be worth trying. And I STILL haven't done the darn light bulb :( Independent reading/preschool math for all Latin and LETL for ds7/independent work for others spelling for dd10 and ds9/independent work for ds7 writing for olders lunch - cello practice for me! memory work, read aloud loop reading for olders girl guides for dd10 @6pm

Jean in Newcastle
We took this week off for fall break. 90% of this week has been dedicated to our dog Rocky who had surgery on Tuesday. But yesterday we did go to the special Sherlock Holmes exhibit at the science center. When you enter, you are given a clue notebook to fill out. The first section was an overview of Victorian medical science including dissection. PSA - please use some common sense and do not bring really young children to these exhibits. It is difficult listening to them cry as they are alternately bored out of their minds and scared by the displays. The next section was on different kinds of clues and crime solving techniques from the use of optics to the telegraph. It had hands on ways to interact with the subject matter. The next section was on Holmes and had us finding things in a scavenger hunt in his rooms. The next three sections had us solving a crime. We had the crime scene where we collected specific clues. Then we compared each of those clues (like blood splatter) with different tests so that we could analyze it. So the blood splatter evidence had us making different blood splatter patterns depending on weapon used. The last section had us putting together the analysis to solve the case. The last section of the exhibit showed us props from different depictions of Sherlock Holmes including the Robert Downey Jr movies , the Cumberbatch Sherlock and the show Elementary.
Critterfixer
Nothing much happening today. We had art this morning--learned a few things about watercolors and how to apply them. After that I had a wellness physical for myself, then we ate lunch with Nana, and we're home for the rest of the day. I hope. No further school activities today. The boys did math at Nana's, which is our only must-do five day subject. I'm happy.
mama25angels
Another day almost down. The youngest has completed all of his daily work but, the oldest is still working, ugh! Why does this child work slower than molasses in winter time? What can i do to get him moving a bit faster? I would be ok with slow work if it was at least correct but, sometimes he has to go back and correct stuff, and most of the time it's because he clearly didn't read the passage or he didn't read the instructions. Well, he's going to be working on Saturday because I'm ready for this day to be over. Next week if he has to have weekend school he's going to be grounded until his check list is completed, this is ridiculous! Critterfixer
I've found that the very best motivation for my boys to "hurry up, already" is to say that we are all going to the river as soon as we finish our work. Instant fire under the rear end. But that's about the only trick I've got to offer.
Aurelia
I've been struggling with keeping up with accountability, and in some ways, it really shows. We've kept on track with schoolwork (mostly), though math has been a problem, but I'm trying to wait until at least January before deciding whether we need a change. We finally got our gym schedule worked out so DD is only going to the gym 4 days a week this year instead of 5, LOL. She's learning to love her Fridays off - enough that some weeks she does extra work Monday through Thursday so she can have ALL of Friday off to do whatever she wants at home - which is usually a lot of online games. I can't imagine where she got that from. I've been slacking on my exercise and guitar practice. I HAVE to get back into it - I feel so much better when I exercise and play music, but between work, school and DD's gym schedule, I really haven't had time. That may end up being my New Year's resolution. Right now my mantra is "5 minutes is better than no minutes".
Aurelia
Oh, and in this week's news - DD broke her toe this morning (accidentally kicked the door frame) but taped it and insisted she was fine to go to gymnastics. She is physically WAY tougher than I ever was. I'm going to have to pick out a new read-aloud. Tonight is the last night for Swallows and Amazons.
Critterfixer
A bit late posting today, but we are moving right along. Yesterday was a short day, so we are having a longer Friday that usual. Today's schedule: French-Unit 20, workbook Latin-Continue Lesson 4, workbook, full recitation Math-Quiz today, 1 page KTD Grammar/Comp-finish spelling practice, sentences, quiz; exercise in KISS grammar; Activity 2 in Creative Writing for Character History/Science-swap from Wednesday For me: French, Latin, Geometry, Writing, Art, Housekeeping I started a new watercolor for inspiration in writing, and discovered the secret of painting fire last night. Very excited about that. Also started a character sketch of my protagonist, but he wouldn't let me draw him with his glasses. The stinker.
