maize
My dyslexic dd8 is reading a book. Whispering to herself as she laboriously sounds out the words. She picked up a book my husband brought home from the library and asked if someone would read it to her. When no one volunteered she opened it and started reading herself. I feel like she's so close to a breakthrough, to that point where her desire and her ability match up just well enough to make the story worth the effort and tip her over the edge into reading for pleasure. Maybe it will never be easy for her, but the more practice she gets the smoother things should go. geodob
Maize, something that you could look out for? Is that she transitions from whispering the words? To using 'self-talk'. Where she can imagine and hear the words in her mind, without needing to whisper them. You could simply ask her, if she can look at a word and imagine what it sounds like?

Where she can imagine and hear the words in her mind, without needing to whisper them. You could simply ask her, if she can look at a word and imagine what it sounds like? She's just barely moved to whispering so I think I'll give her time.
maize
The thing that really gave me hope is that this was a book at her interest level, which has been so far above her reading level in the past that it was totally out of reach. She got through a page and a half last night before getting tired.
