blue daisy
Is there a good illustrated edition of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings? We're doing The Hobbit as a read aloud right now and all the kids love it. My almost 3 year old loves to ask everyone "What's a burrahobbit??" LOL I'd love to get the kids a nice copy for a Christmas gift and LOTR is one of DH's faves. We just have beat up paperbacks of both right now (due to so many readings! lol) I just love beautifully illustrated novels. Thanks.
forty-two
I got the Alan Lee ones: https://smile.amazon.com/Hobbit-J-R-R-Tolkien/dp/0395873460/ https://smile.amazon.com/Fellowship-Ring-Lord-Rings-Part/dp/061826051X/ https://smile.amazon.com/Two-Towers-Lord-Rings-Part/dp/0618260595/ https://smile.amazon.com/Return-King-Lord-Rings-Part/dp/0618260552/ Our library has them, so I was able to see them in person before buying them.

blue daisy
Thanks! I was frustrated with limited views on Amazon, but I went to Youtube and found some videos showing the books which helped a lot. Thanks for the suggestions! Harriet Vane
Another recommendation for the Alan Lee illustrations. Absolutely gorgeous. He collaborated on the movies as well.
wathe
the Jemima Catlin version of The Hobbit is the favourite here. There is a small full-colour illustration on almost every page, and full page illustrations every chapter or so. the illustrator has been very careful to match the details of the illustrations to the text
