MacBook people, Safari question

When you swipe to go back a page while browsing, does the entire page reload?  This has been driving me nuts ever since I got my MacBook and I can't find a setting to change it.

From googling, I see that this was a problem a few years ago for many/all, but I don't see any recent discussions of this problem, so I'm wondering if newer versions of Safari have a way around this that I just haven't found.

My Safari is version 9.1.2 on OS X 10.9.5, if that matters.  Ideas?

I have Safari 10.0 on OS X 10.10.5 and this doesn't happen to me. However this is my second Macbook Pro and while I don't remember the version numbers form the previous one, I bought it in 2007. It still didn't have the problem you're describing. That would drive me crazy.

Maybe try a different trackpad setting for what gesture you use? It shouldn't make a difference in theory, but I would give it a try.
