Last year, mid year, I switched my eldest to TT5 which she hates. However, since all her anger is directed at the computer and no longer at me, I love it. Total relationship saver! Does she have a lot of trouble understanding math? If your child is struggling with math, and hates TT, I would hesitate to try moving her to another independent program. If there are issues with her trying to learn math you might consider a tutor, at least for a bit. Or backing off completely for a bit and giving you both a bit of a detox period before maybe giving her an assessment test to see if there are gaps in understanding or weak computational areas. Maybe take a period of time to play mathy games to strengthen concepts and possibly look on Sorror's Relaxed Math thread for a different approach for a bit. 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We reached a point, when my boys were in 5th and 9th grades, when math at home just didn't work any more and we put them each in a math class at a university style school. It was a life saver for us. Heather in VA Posted October 2, 2016 Share Posted October 2, 2016 I agree with OneStep that I wouldn't just change her to another independent program without first figuring out what it is about math that is causing so much stress. Is she frustrated because she doesn't understand? Is she bored? Is it truly an attitude issue? Is she placed too high or too low? Does she need a program with less problems per day? Janeway Posted October 5, 2016 Share Posted October 5, 2016 I do not like TT. It is behind on scope and sequence, which does not bother me, I would just place a child at a lower level. But, the way it explains the topics, for many children, it can cause stress. The computer I mean, constantly being on the computer during lessons, and the way it is presented. However, for some kids, it works great! Have you tried Math U See yet? It is very thorough at the arithmetic levels, and gentle, and explains topics well.
