mountains27
I'm sure there are posts similar to this question but wondering what other people like to use for a 10 yo who wants to do vet science! I'm thinking zoology would be a good place to start and wonder if anyone can recommend some good curriculum?
hellen
Have you looked at Memoria Press Mammals?
mountains27
I think I looked at almost every homeschool science curriculum available last night! ended up going with Elemental Science Biology for the logic stage, looks closest to what kind of program I wanted to try so hopefully it works out! Chrysalis Academy
Not a curriculum, exactly, but check out this book: Zoology for Kids: Understanding and Working with Animals, with 21 Activities We just started it and it looks really good. We're going to make the Edible Animal Cell cake this week. ;) Also check out the Scientists in the Field series of books, which are just excellent. You gain an understanding of the animal, its habitat, issues about its conservation, and an understanding of the scientists who work with animals. Plus the pictures are gorgeous. My dd is an animal lover currently obsessed with wild cats. We did Sassafrass Zoology in 4th grade, which she enjoyed but I can't actually recommend because the book is so terribly written, but reading library books about the animals and filling out the field log was really fun for her. We just went to the library yesterday and I told her to choose 8 books about things she wants to learn about this year, and they were all books about animals! So I think she will do a lot of reading/mini report writing as part of her zoology studies this year. Quark Chronicles also has a Zoology book, but I haven't read it. We did get the Botany one, and it's much better writing than Sassafras, but dd found it a little weird - more about aliens and space exploration. She just wants to focus on the animals and their habitats.
purduemeche
We really enjoy Exploring Creation with Zoology by Apologia. It won't get vet specific, but at this age all you really want to do it keep your kids interested. Science at this stage needs to be encouraging wonder. chocolate-chip chooky
We enjoyed this MOOC from Coursera: Do you have what it takes to be a veterinarian? https://www.coursera.org/learn/becoming-a-veterinarian I highly recommend it. Excellent. My daughter was about 9 when we did it together.
