maize
This morning's email from Landry Academy said they are opening a group buy for generic credits at 84% discount, but they have to be bought in packages of 100. This is for the 2018-19 school year and beyond. Do we have folks interested in a group buy?

CanadianAlison+3boys
I'm not on their email list but I'd love more details from the email. We might be in for some too.
cjzimmer1
looks like this could be combined with their new prime membership for either further savings. I currently have 20 generic semesters, so I'm trying to decide if I want to get more now or wait another year or two.
cjzimmer1
I'm not on their email list but I'd love more details from the email. We might be in for some too. Greetings Homeschooling Family, We're excited to announce that a limited number of "Landry Prime" memberships opened for registration at 10:00 am ET this morning. We've been working on this for months with lots of great freebies and benefits for families who are "Landry Prime" members... including a 20% discount on everything we offer - on top of any early registration discounts, etc. Details are here... http://landryacademy.com/prime __________ Thursday, September 1 is the BIG One! Thursday of this week is the day that many of our families wait for and it's the day many of you have been asking us about for months. A limited number of 2018-19 generic Online class semester packages open for a few days at an 84% discount for a package of 100. You can use all of those semesters for your family (they never expire) or you can share them with other families in a group buy. We're glad to be able to make our classes as affordable as possible if you purchase generics early and in bulk packages. But, we only offer a limited number of these at each discount level and the early registration discount we offer on these decreases every year. For example, this year's discounts are not as big as last year's discounts - and next year's discounts will not be as big as this year's discounts. If you plan on using our classes buying more generics early saves you money. You can see details here... http://www.landryacademy.com/live-classes/generic-semesters
CanadianAlison+3boys
That looks great! I'll talk it over with DH and see but I'm certain we'd be in for some credits if someone is running a buy.

thundersweet
If the person running the group buy has the new Landry prime membership, the whole group gets the additional 20% off prime discount, even the ones without prime. maize
If the person running the group buy has the new Landry prime membership, the whole group gets the additional 20% off prime discount, even the ones without prime. I just saw that. Is anyone here interested in the Prime program? Without the extra prime discount it would be $62 per semester credit. Looks like with Prime it would be about $50 (did I do the math right?) per semester credit.
maize
Maybe the folks doing the group buy could each chip in a dollar or two towards a prime membership for whoever agrees to organize it :)
maize
I meant a dollar or two per credit, so if someone (not me) wants to do prime, and I am going in on the group buy for three credits, I could chip in $6 towards their prime membership. If everyone does that we would still come out way ahead on the credits and would fund a good chunk of a year of prime.
thundersweet
Yes, $50 per credit!
DCBelle
I cannot afford to be the buyer. I would buy 15-20 generics from the pool depending on the price ($62-$50) and would contribute towards prime as well.
thundersweet
I don't want to be the buyer either, leaving for 2 weeks on vacation. However, for the person interested in overseeing this, the people interested pay first and then you make the purchase. I assume one would PayPal the buyer and then buyer makes one purchase.
thundersweet
And I would also contribute to prime:)
CanadianAlison+3boys
We need someone to run point on this. I don't mind doing it (paying through paypal) but I'm in Canada and I'm not sure if that makes any difference (it shouldn't as long as payments are sent in USD and then paid in USD, there shouldn't be any exchange loss). How close are we to 100? How can we let more people know. Should we start a separate Facebook group to discuss details?
Annie Laurie
I definitely am interested! ETA: I would happily contribute to Prime and do anything else I could to help. I could really use this reduced rate! I have 2 kids taking classes there this year. Edited August 31, 2016 by Annie Laurie

FiveOaks
I'd be willing to manage the group buy, but only if everyone chipped in to cover the cost of the Prime subscription too. Our kids have done several Landry courses. They are AMAZING!! So godly, so enjoyable, so interesting...with just the right level of academic challenge to spur on excellence. The teachers are top-notch, too. We're enrolled in 12 Landry courses so far this year, and are keen to do even more as we enter into the high school years shortly. So, we'll be needing a few dozen low-priced generics to make that happen. Who wants in on this sweet deal of $50 per generic, if I do the purchasing? I would expect prompt cash payment from you via PayPal, either in USD or equivalent CAD (I'm in Canada). Together, let's make this happen!
CanadianAlison+3boys
OK so payment should be made in USD so there is no exchange. If everyone pays $52 per credit it'll cover almost the entire year worth of Prime. I only need 2 credits as we will be just starting out and testing online courses by then. How close to 100 are we? How many does everyone else want? Once we have 100 committed we can send paypal. Going from those who posted an estimate on the thread: CanadianAlison: 2 DCBelle: 15-20 JadeOrchidSong: 8 FiveOaks: a few dozen Plus 4 other people (if I counted right on my small screen) said they wanted some but didn't say how many. But still we are well on our way. Especially if we make a new post if needed specifically stating a buy is open. Let's make this happen ASAP :)

RootAnn
I was part of one last year & the person organizing it collected email addresses by Private Message & then sent out group emails asking for the info that Landry needs & sent her paypal address that way, too. I think she had a master spreadsheet where she kept track of which people wanted however many credits - which made things a lot easier for her, I would guess. Just some BTDT experience to help y'all out. I just bought a bunch of credits on an unadvertised special, so I think I'm good for awhile. RootAnn
CT: If it is a one semester class, you need one credit. If it is a year long class, you need two credits.

You can ask your money back if the deal is not delivered? I was a bit uncomfortable with that too. And the paypal protection isn't really that good. Sure paypal can side with you but if the other person has already removed the money from their account you get nothing back.
CanadianAlison+3boys
Ok. Would everyone be more comfortable if I ran the buy? I'm on mobile so I didn't even notice she had only 1 post. I am happy to do it or happy to take part if someone else is running. Let's get this set up. The total cost per credit is $52.00 I will post my pp address if I'm running it. If we don't hit 100 I will of course refund everyone. I have feedback on the baby wearer forums from bst and on eBay, all positive which I can share via pm on request if that helps.

I'm in for at least 4, maybe more, need to decide how much I want to spend right now. Will buy more if we need to, to reach 100. Thank you so much for offering to run this! The discount isn't as deep after September 3 (tomorrow), so we need to buy today for the $52 price.

crazyforlatin
I'm interested in buying, not sure how many at this very moment. CanadianAlison+3boys
OK... Because we want to get this done I will post my pp address and I'll start a spreadsheet. Can you please PM me with your pp name once you have paid so I can add that to my spreadsheet (otherwise I can't match pp to username). PayPal address is amamatoboys@gmail.com I will keep a running update on here of how many have been paid for. If you know anyone who might be interested let them know. Let's get to 100 before midnight tomorrow! *EDITED* I totally forgot about paypal fees. If you send via goods there is a fee taken by paypal so the total cost per credit will be $53.86. You can verify that on this link http://thefeecalculator.com If you send via friends and family there is no fee taken (but you don't have purchase protection). I am totally fine with each person deciding which option they are comfortable with as the end result for me to send to Landry Academy will be the same so you can choose when you send.
