branmaxdaddy
Hello All: I saw a few discussions on homeschooling but they were several years old. I hope you don't mind me asking for some advice. We aren't happy with our public school options and are considering starting a home-based private school. More specifically, we will hire a credentialed teacher to teach our son and 4 or 5 other kids his age either at our home or the teachers. I saw discussions suggesting that all homeschools are basically home-based private schools, but those seem to apply to those taught by the parents themselves. In our model we will hire a teacher, as mentioned above. Is anyone aware of issues preventing us from doing this? Based on my review of many websites specific to California, we have the option of "tutoring" for our son, to be completed by a credentialed teacher. Perhaps completing a PSA. While we will likely have parents volunteering occasionally, the teacher we hire would be the lead educator. I appreciate any and all comments. Sincerely, J in Santa Clarita p.s. if anyone is interested in participating in this, we have an amazing friend, credentialed in CA, who will be our son's teacher. Looking for 3rd and 4th graders. No more never ending worksheets!
purpleowl
Hi - I think if you post this in the General Education section of the board, you'll probably get more answers. I'm in Florida and not terribly familiar with California's requirements, but I'm sure there are plenty of people who could be helpful to you!
