blendergal
DS6 just started 1st grade. He worked through about 2/3 of Singapore Math 1A this summer. (I had hoped to keep him home and continue with Singapore Math this school year, but DH felt strongly about sending him to public school.) His school just adopted Eureka Math. Just glancing through the workbook they sent home today, it looks quite similar to Singapore Math. Is that right? What am I missing? What do people think of Eureka Math? My understanding is that it's free, but I've been lurking here for a while and never seen any mention of it, even though there's a lot of enthusiasm for Singapore Math. wapiti
I vaguely recall that Eureka has a reputation for poorly-written problems. I haven't looked at the scope and sequence, but it supposedly follows the Common Core standards closely, which is the purpose for which it was written. It's easy to find more criticism of Eureka Math with google - here's one random example that popped up for me. I imagine that, like any other math program, it can be used well or poorly, depending on the talents of the teacher. blendergal
My own quick search did turn up that blog post, plus a few articles that linked to it. We haven't run into any glaring mistakes or confusing questions, but it's helpful to know those are the kinds of problems to look out for. Mostly, I was surprised to see how similar the exercises were to Singapore Math. We've enjoyed using that at home and I wasn't expecting much from the school's curriculum choice. Not too bad, so far.
