bluedarling
I was originally going to have dd10 do both Writers In Residence and LL7, but it was taking her WAY too long. I dropped the LL7 and we'll try it again next year (she could do it...it was all just too much.) So...what do I add to WiR to make it complete LA? PS says she reads at grade 12 level, and she writes well but age level (a bit too informal according to PS teacher.) She is a natural speller, so I wasn't planning to add spelling, but could. I just told her to read independently for the rest of LA for now, but should I be addressing reading more intentionally? She is doing Notgrass USaY, so will get some literature there. Should I just let her be? or add to it?
mommy2ella
Haven't used it yet, but I'm considering a combo of Writers in Residence and Readers in Residence for 5th grade (to address reading more intentionally), with maybe one of the CAP Writing and Rhetoric books thrown in for variety. :)
Tiramisu
I am very happy with CLE reading, but Readers in Residence looks nice. If I had money to burn, I'd order Writers in Residence. For now, I'll just use what's on my shelf.
bluedarling
I hadn't actually even noticed there was a Readers In Residence, but I think I've narrowed it down to: a) MCT 3 or b) using the LL7 I have, and reducing the pace , Pros/Cons of MCT - Pros: designed w/gifted student in mind, probably more interesting for her, Cons: price + what to cut out to allow for WiR?, not independent enough? Pros/Cons of LL7 - Pros: I have it, and most days its just assigned reading, Cons: boring, writing req's may be too much for her I can't decide what to do! I will be working part-time soon, so independence is important, and why I originally didn't go with MCT. Please give me opinions!
