Jennifer132
Hi all. I haven't been on in a while. Been too busy over on Catholic Answers....anyway, we are converting to Catholicism! We were/are using Heart of Dakota for my older son (11) and Pages of History as a spine for my dd (10). I was just wondering if there are many Catholic homeschool curriculum companies and who would you recommend? We typically do a lit based history, and enjoy HOD, but I think I'd like to look at something that supports Catholic doctrine a little more closely.
Tiramisu
You could look at Connecting with History or Mother of Divine Grace syllabi. I'm not familiar with HOD but those are the Catholic programs that have a literature/history approach. Welcome home!
keirin
Congratulations on your conversion! In addition to above, http://materamabilis.org/ma/ is a free Catholic Charlotte mason inspired curriculum. Catholic heritage has some options. https://www.chcweb.com/catalog/ Personally, I use a little of everything. I've considered bookshark, which is secular, with additions from some of the above companies/programs. And I also like memoria press, which isn't Catholic but is working to release some Catholic errata a to help make certain supplements friendly to those of us in the Catholic Church. HomeAgain
If you haven't had a chance, I'd suggest peeking over at Adoramus Books. It's a huge Catholic bookstore - they carry different curricula and assists along with other things. You might find singular items there even if you don't find a curriculum you like. http://www.adoremusbooks.com/homeschoolcurriculumproviders.aspx
carriede
If you like HOD (disclaimer, I know nothing about it), I suggest just looking at the religion studies from the links suggested. There are many Catholics, myself included, that do non-Catholic curricula and supplement. My faves are the Well Trained Mind, Memoria Press, and Mater Amabilis (linked above). I'm all about the hybrid. ;)
Syllieann
I don't think there is anything comparable to HOD available. We use connecting with history, but it's not open and go with the daily plan. There is a new series similar to SOTW coming out that got some talk a couple weeks ago. It is called the story of civilization by Tan Homeschool. https://www.tanbooks.com/index.php/the-story-of-civilization-vol-1-the-ancient-world.html If you decide to keep on with hod, you might look at the rhetoric level lists of connecting with history to inform yourself on where issues might arise. aaplank
Awesome news on your conversion! I remember your earlier posts because I too am converting from a strong evangelical background to Catholicism. Have you checked out Mother of Divine Grace? You can just buy the syllabus and piecemeal curriculum together. also I like some of the resources that Catholic Schoolhouse uses, especially for fine arts. https://www.motherofdivinegrace.org/ http://www.catholicschoolhouse.com/?v=1d20b5ff1ee9

quietchapel
Mater Amabalis is a delightful journey with literature. CHC is thoroughly, yet gently Catholic. It speaks to the soul of the Catholic child. It is also incredibly parent- friendly.
