Kat w
Hi there, I've heard alot about semple math here. My boys are 12 and 10 and haven't memorized a single math fact despite daily drills for years. They still add using their fingers. I went to the website , as a self proclaimed electronically challenged person myself, I probably didn't find something somewhere on their site that gave more info on the program. I just don't want to invest in another curriculum that doesn't really help like I hoped. Can the semple math users give me any feedback? I would really like for them to at a very minimum learn addition and subtraction facts. :/ Help? Please? Lol TIA
Cymbol
I haven't used Semple but I have found success in memorizing math facts using XtraMath. The website it free. We purchased the app because it was more convient for us. My learning challenged son was able to memorize all his addition facts in a month. (I spent a year trying to teach him math strategies). We're on to subtraction now. When you log in, the kids do an assessment. They have 10 seconds to answer each problem but the goal is to answer it in under 3 seconds. After the assessment, they practice answering a set of questions they still need work on. These have to be done under 3 seconds or the answer is revealed. The only thing I would change about the program is that I wished it also did mixed review (ie. Mixed addition and subtraction facts).
Kat w
I haven't heard of xtramath. I will Google it. I wonder, when, not if lol, they get it wrong if that would be discouraging to him or spark something competitive in him. His wm is extremely low. And that was with sifting through the apd stuff. I will try anything and I lik low cost . Thanks a bunch
scoutingmom
Just want to mention you can set xtramath to allow 6 seconds. Sent from my SM-T530NU using Tapatalk
Kat w
Scouting mom, set it to allow 6 sec.? Is that something on the app the pertains to that program?
scoutingmom
I have never used the app, just the wrbsite. It has been a while, but on the website with the childs settings you can say to change program. Then there are options that say something like "extended 6 second addition" Sent from my SM-T530NU using Tapatalk

Is behind...but you can type the numbers in etc which really works for us. We just need so much review we wind up doing several programs . And the math facts, they are just not committing them to memory. Thanks, I'll try that app today :)
desertflower
Kat, I'm thinking about using Semple as well. I found this in my research. http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/371898-semple-math/ There's another good thread that I found last night, but can't seem to find now. But it pretty much says the same thing. What sold me is that chiguirre actually typed out a mnemonic in this other thread that I can't find. Hope this helps.
