Dmmetler
At UNR, DD got introduced to the idea that Biomathematics exists, and, after talking to a few people this weekend, really is interested in diving into it. Any suggestions on resources that might be interesting to her on these topics (even if she doesn't necessarily have the math background to understand them yet, she is FAR more motivated to fill gaps if it gets her to something she wants, and if it can let her understand salamanders and snakes better and is helpful in conservation efforts, well....). Any ideas on where to start? (And mom would prefer MOOCs, or maybe DOver books or ones that have been around awhile so they're common on the used market. Now that she's diving into college content, textbook sticker shock has set in...)
lewelma
My PhD focused in Mathematical and Theoretical Biology, but I kind of fell into it by accident rather than studying it formally. The two topics where you can hit mathematical biology early on is Population Ecology and Population Genetics. Also there is a lot of game theory in Evolution. Are there courses on those?
mumto2
My ds did this course. It's been repackaged a couple of times but pretty sure it's the same one. He loved it. https://www.coursera.org/specializations/computational-biology
EndOfOrdinary
MIT has a few in their Compuational and Systems Biology department on Open Courseware. A couple are undergrad, but many more are graduate level. We have found their courses to really be great if they have a video lecture component. Ds just gravitates to the videos more since he is so visual. In any case, yu but ncould probably find some books through the syllabi.
