MFW K with 2 different ages - help with deciding something

So dd is going to use MFW for K with dgs (turning 5 in August), starting in September. The thing is, dgd will be turning 4 in December and is going to want to do school too. Is the MFW K student book too much for a 4yo? Are there parts she could do? I'm going to buy the student stuff and am just not sure if it's worth it to get her one.

I did mfw k with my 4 yo (turned in November) this past year but did not get the students sheets for him. They are mainly based on the reading and math which I didn't feel he was ready for. If you feel as if dgd would be ready to read, then the sheets would be helpful, but there is writing required too then. If not, there is enough of the program for dgd to sit in on and still learn. I was also able to find free printables online that complimented the program nicely- both the Bible creation days as well as letters each week. Hope that helps!

Well if you aren't going to do the reading and math part of MFW, do you need the sheets? Dd is doing Phonics Pathways and a different math program, but was gonna use MFW for everything else. Is this overkill? Is MFW a strong reading/math program as well?

MFW phonics is strong is you go at your own pace and don't do the reading about the stories before you do the stories, that promotes word guessing about the stories. If you go at the pace of MFW phonics with a reader who needs more repetition, it can cause problems. It can also result in less progress that you could have for a fast phonics student. It would have been to fast for my son and too slow for my daughter if used on pace. If she has PP, I would stick with that, but if she has MFW, the phonics is good if you use it separate from the rest of MFW and un-integrate it.

She has the PP and MFW, but was just going to do the PP separately from the MFW. Is the MFW phonics really complete? I just wonder if dd might be less overwhelmed with something that was integrated; she's very nervous about actually teaching dgs this year.

It is complete for the basics, but using it in an integrated manner makes it poor phonics program that promotes guessing. I would stick with PP, it goes to a bit higher grade level. MFW is only a good phonics program if used seperately from the rest of MFW at the child's pace and unintegrating the stories.
