Texas History

Recommended Posts

I have been researching Texas History curriculum for my 4th grader. I don't have any recommendations based on experience, but I can share some useful curriculum that I have found.

This is a full curriculum with activities, but is set up for classes; so would need some modifying: https://www.sanjacinto-museum.org/content/documents/CurriculumGuideforTeachingTexasHistory.pdf

This one has a week-by-week lesson plans specifically for 7th grade: http://www.princetonisd.net/Page/3544

This one gives a good idea of what to cover each week, but it doesn't have lesson plans or activities; just refers to pages in the textbook. But it could be useful for giving a guideline on what to cover, when: http://edinburg.schooldesk.net/Portals/Edinburg/District/docs/Social%20Studies/Curriculum%20Guides/7th%20Grade%20Social%20Studies.pdf

ETA a few more:

Discover Texas

Texas History Homeschool Curriculum - great resource with lots of info, has links to curriculum; but no laid out plan

https://www.studiesweekly.com/    This has a weekly 'textbook' in a newspaper format that covers 4th grade Texas history.

Our district uses this textbook for 7th grade : http://www.glencoe.com/sec/socialstudies/ushistory/tx2003/   This is the online resources for the textbook

Here is the quizzes & texts pdf for Texas & Texans: http://www.bisd.net/cms/lib02/TX01001322/Centricity/Domain/495/quiz_and_test.pdf

This link is chapter 1 in pdf form:  http://www.emsisd.com/cms/lib/TX21000533/Centricity/Domain/4363/Chapter%201.pdf

Change the 'Chapter%20_.pdf to the next chapters for the rest of the book   I.e.,  chapter ten would be . . .  Chapter%2010.pdf

For chapters 15 on up - the pattern changes to:  chap15.pdf [http://www.emsisd.com/cms/lib/TX21000533/Centricity/Domain/4363/chap15.pdf]

30 chapters in all

The student edition is available on amazon for around $5 plus shipping if you don't want to bother with the pdfs

The teacher edition is significantly more ($100) but you probably don't really need it.

This link is for the study guide: http://www.bisd.net/cms/lib02/TX01001322/Centricity/Domain/495/workbook.pdf

There is an 'activity book' but I can't find a pdf of it online, however amazon has it for close to $20.
