I'd put it more at the level of advanced middle school than high school chem but that's just me. :) Also, for that amount of money, I'd rather purchase a kit from Quality Science Labs - you'll get a manual and equipment to do labs that are at high school level and they have the labs set up to coordinate with some common homeschool curricula here (scroll down to the chem links). gstharr Posted July 3, 2016 Share Posted July 3, 2016 I have only used the physic (solar) kit and was not impressed. The writing was way over the head of my then 5th grader, but still would not consider it sufficient for a text/class substitute.. .the materials were limited, cheap feeling and not easy to manipulate into anything other than their examples. Also. my kids have attended school the last two years and quite honestly we have done more labs in our science courses at home in more detail than they have at school. I have come to the conclusion that in many cases high school labs are not as involved as I thought they were. This is not to say I don't want to continue with quality science at home. :-) What I am thinking of using is: Chemistry by Zumdahl and some kind of kit Any other suggestions? It says right in the description that the kit is "preparation" for high school chem. We had a T&K kit once, and what they consider an "experiment" is NOT an experiment. It's more along the lines of "dump this liquid into this liquid. Watch it change colors. Isn't that cool?" I suggest an eScience kit. They have many to choose from, or you can build your own. OnMyOwn Posted July 3, 2016 Share Posted July 3, 2016 I have been very happy with Spectrum Chemistry. Everything you could possibly need is included and clearly labelled. We have done 10 of the labs so far and every one has worked the way it was supposed to. There are about 30 labs in total. When I tell my dd she has a lab scheduled, she says "yay". It brought us outstanding AP results for our kids and they were so excited to do their experiments! Ck01A kit can be used with free donwloadable lab book and virtually any chemistry text. The kit can be spread out over two years as there are so many experiments.
