plain jane
I've found that I really like the BJU middle school science sequence and will plan to continue it for all of mine (grade 7 life, grade 8 earth and space, grade 9 physical science). I'm now looking for something to do with my rising 5th grader who is entering the Logic stage. I always wanted to follow the WTM science sequence but I found it too difficult and time consuming to do myself in grade 8 and 9, which is why we ended up going the BJU route starting in grade 7. WTM would have us do life science in grade 5, which would be great because this child hasn't done a full year of life science since grade 1 (we've done some Apologia books so it's not like there has been no life science). I was thinking of doing Pandia Press RSO Biology 2 for 5th. Then, perhaps we would do some CPO Earth and Space (doing the more interesting chapters but likely not the whole text) and finish off grade 6 doing interest led science before jumping into the BJU rotation. However, I am wondering if doing RSO Bio 2 in grade 5 followed by BJU Life Science in grade 7 is going to be total Life Science overkill? Too much overlap? I like RSO because it looks fun and interesting and other than maybe the new Jay Wile texts, I'm not sure what we would do for 5th? We just finished Exploration Education (physics and chem) if that matters. Thoughts?
Mrs Twain
The BJU 6 course is great, and you could do that for 5th. It is a general overview of science. I wouldn't skip it. I think that would be more useful and interesting than an extra year of life science.
