Tinkerbell
I like how the Magic School Bus Science Club looks - a fun science kit that comes in the mail every month. I think the subscription goes on sale for half price at the end of the month. I was curious if anyone has used it and what your thoughts are on it, or anything similiar that you have tried. Um_2_4
I had it for a year. Some of the months were better than others. You still need lots of stuff from home. Some easy to find (straws) some you have to go buy (I think one required mini marshmallows, some other stuff I don't keep at home). I think you could hand it to an 8yo and let them go at it themselves. Some of the "experiments" are rather less than exciting. Most are the usual ones you see online and nothing special other than they come with Ms. Frizzle on them LOL. Would I pay $120, nope. I think you could accumulate them for a lot less on ebay or Amazon and pull one out 1x a month. Or check out the Young Scientists Club , I haven't tried them, but I think these might be for slightly older.
Squawky Acres
We tried this at the reduced rate on Homeschool Buyers Co-op last year. The Mrs. Frizzle illustrations were very cute, the instructions were clear, and my older children were able to do most of the experiments on their own. The "supplies" are a bit small and sparse (as they all have to fit into an envelope), and they did require some additional items from home; but I liked the set of small, related, experiments. I wouldn't consider it a science curriculum, but it is a fun extra for kids who like to get mail.
mamakelly
I bought some of the Magic School bus kits separately. Mason loved them from about k-2nd grades.
Guest
You can purchase Magic School Bus and Young Scientist Kits at Amazon much cheaper. We have used the Young Scientist kits and the kids have loved them.
BatmansWife
I haven't tried these, but there's Groovy Lab in a Box, Genius Box, StemBox, Spangler Science Club, Kiwi Crate, Tinker Crate, Surprise Ride (not necessarily Science). I'm sure there's more. Edited May 12, 2016 by BatmansWife
