R&S is very thorough and dd is doing well with it, but it seems to go well beyond most Jr high grammar curriculum. I want her to be good at writing (we are using WWS currently) and I know grammar is a part of that. I also want her ready for high school level work. What would you suggest for 8th grade? Her writing skills are ok, I've seen a lot of improvement since we started WWS, but I'm not sure if they are high school level or not. aelllc Posted May 6, 2016 Share Posted May 6, 2016 IEW Fix-it grammar seems like good follow-up to Rod and Staff grammar. Fix-it grammar is more of an applied to your writing grammar. It has you edit for grammar and style errors. There are 6 levels. IEW'w website has a placement test that can be taken to see which book you would place in. It was perfect - reviewed stuff she knew, introduced details she hadn't run into yet. She did one section a day, and worked through the whole book, soup to nuts, independently in 8th grade. We have a few of the Critical Thinking Co workbooks and I am considering either Fix It Grammar or the CTC book Editor-in-Chief. Their books are pretty fun; dd often asks to do extra! SilverMoon Posted May 7, 2016 Share Posted May 7, 2016 (edited) My teens used Stewart English when they'd had enough of R&S English. It shoves the grammar right into the writing. Book 1 seems to focus on the nuts and bolts of grammar, book 2 reinforces that and shoves it directly into writing, and book 3 is focused on writing. A kid who's finished R&S 7 could just start with book 2 and be done. (We never used book 3.) These books were recommended in older WTM editions.
