Murrayshire
Dd will be in 10th next school year and possibly taking Geometry at co-op. They use Teaching Textbooks. This year dd has been thriving with Alg 1 using Tablet Class. I'm wondering if we should just stay the course with TC or let her take TT with local teacher once a week?! Can anyone give me their thoughts on TT or TC's Geometry? Pros, cons,...... Btw, she says she doesn't like Geometry. Thanks🙂
OneStepAtATime
How would a coop use Teaching Textbooks? The program teaches the student directly. Are they only using copies of the physical workbook but the teacher will teach the material? Or are they providing all the students with the computer version? Kassia
My daughter is using TT for geometry this year. She likes it very much and has learned a lot. She does the proofs on paper so she can think through them herself. This is our first year using TT and we've been very happy with it. Erica But your DD is using the actual computer program at home, right? Not through a co-op? I'm trying to figure out how a co-op would use TT affordably/logistically. I don't think you can photocopy the WB for classes so would they buy a WB for each student? And you certainly can't copy the program legally but maybe co-ops are allowed to register multiple children? But that still wouldn't work because they would each need access to the software at home or have computers in the classroom and I don't think you are allowed to load the software onto multiple computers for just one entity. And what advantage would there be to TT in a co-op once a week vs. the regular TT program at home or using Tablet Class? I guess maybe having a real live teacher to assist if they run into snags. Plus having classmates to hang with... If I were going that route, though, I would definitely want to know how they are handling the material. It might make sense to buy the program to use at home while also registering with the co-op for the added instructor support and interaction with other kids, but that might run into a lot of unnecessary expense.

OneStepAtATime
OP, I hope you don't take my comments as rude or un-supportive. I just felt I needed more understanding of how they are using TT at the co-op and thought others might, too, before they could effectively comment.

Murrayshire
The cost is $60 for class, not including co-op fees. Co-op won't be using the TT cd either. For now, I just need opinions/reviews about how effective TT is in Geometry. Does it leave anything out? Will TC cover the same material as TT? Is one or the other a stronger program?......etc. Basically, I'd like to hear thoughts from those that are using or have used TT and Tablet Class Geometry. (Granted, I will need to consider having an instructor vs. a computer program) Then dd and I can determine our action plan. Thanks to each of you for the responses! freesia
We used TT Geometry--the first version. I liked it a lot. I am not fond of the 2.0 version as you don't wtite out the proofs. You could require this if her or see if that is something they will do in class. I found it complete.
OneStepAtATime
I hope someone who has used both will chime in. Good luck, OP.

Kassia
I didn't know this about the different versions. I will look into this! Thanks for bringing it up! We have the second version and my daughter just writes out the proofs herself and checks them. Erica

I am curious because now I am looking for TT geometry and maybe 1st edition will work for us? Thanks for your help!
1Togo
We used TC for Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 & 2, and Geometry. TC, combined with tutoring from Mr. Zimmerman, brought youngest dc out of math darkness. I worked through all of the lessons side-by-side with dc and love TC. Mr. Z is working on a Pre-Calculus course. If TC is working, I would stay the course.
EKS
We used the old edition of TT Geometry. I found it to be a solid program. I have looked at the new edition with the automated grading, and it doesn't impress me, particularly how they do proofs. I would think that having the material taught by a live teacher and only using the textbook, rather than the automatic grading, would be a good thing. My son needed extra instruction in how to do proofs--and I'm guessing that this is a fairly common problem. The teacher could provide this.
freesia
Hi, Anne, We used 2nd edition TT for algebra 1. How did you use 1st edition geometry? I am curious because now I am looking for TT geometry and maybe 1st edition will work for us? Thanks for your help! It is the version without grading. Ds wirked from the workbook (occasionally watching the video). I checked it. If he missed something, I would work with him or he'd watch the video solution. I checked his answers from the key.
Murrayshire
Update: dd has decide that TC Geometry is going to suit her better! So we will stay the course! **Edit to add: co-op uses first edition book only and no video instruction. Found out they won't even offer Geometry for next school year anyway, so looks like we've made the right choice to stay with TC!
