Where do you like to shop for 18" doll clothes?

I'd like to get some outfits for dd's 18-inch dolls but would like to spend less than what they sale on the AG site. What are some good quality doll clothes companies that are less than the AG outfits that you use? I'd hate to order stuff that's going to fall apart.

We've been very happy with etsy.com sellers.  It takes time to sort through the possibilities, but there are some great designers/sellers out there.  (My favorite items are sets that have some kind of mix-and-match potential.)

Cara Anne Designs, run by a homeschool graduate, makes lovely skating outfits, and can do matching girl/doll sets.  I'm guessing she'd also do dance or other similar looks as well, if that's what you wanted.

Nuclear Needle Arts, run by a homeschool mom, makes a variety of nice dresses.  Check out her holiday gowns!  Not cheap, but American made and good quality.

SewMyGoodness has a variety; I like her cowgirl sets, and I'd love her shearling coat in my size!

I personally had very poor luck with Target's My Generation clothing. I got the riding outfit for my dd's doll last Christmas.

Getting those pants on her was worse than getting skinny jeans on after the holidays! Plus the fabric was unraveling.

And the riding boots! As my dd's AG doll had not had her feet bound while growing up, and has some nice chunky calves, there was no way those Target boots were going on. I finally split them up the back, and now we CAN get them on, but we usually don't bother.  :-)

I'm posting again after re-reading the op.

I have found that the American Girl clothes are generally worth the extra money, even if the girls don't get as many outfits.  They are usually very well made.  The fabric is so much better, and most of the outfits have beautiful detail work.

I'd go with Etsy.

Honestly, we make them ourselves. We've started selling at craft fairs, and are considering setting up an Etsy shop. My dd spends a LOT of time examining the clothing, and has definite opinions on what is worthwhile.

The Target stuff looks nice, as does the new line at Walmart. It's disappointing to hear that Rockhopper had a bad experience. Different brands of dolls have slightly different measurements, so things like skinny jeans could be tough to cross brands (plus, measurements for various brands have changed over the years, so that's a whole 'nuther party). The stuff at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, etc, is less expensive (particularly if you use coupons), but it looks really, really cheap, like it will shred to pieces like those crappy Halloween costumes that barely make it through the evening.

And, frankly, the stuff at the AG store has REALLY gone downhill in quality. We were appalled at the clothing last time we visited (a couple of months ago). The accessories are cute as ever, though. (Dd's theory is that they've hit bottom, and will start coming back over the next few years.)

I'm on the iPad and the only Etsy shop I have marked on here is Circle C Sewing -- her clothing looks very, very nice, at least in photos. There are others that appear have excellent quality, but I don't recall names off the top of my head.

Another online shop I like to browse is The Queen's Treasures. I've never bought any of their things, so I don't know the quality vs. price.

(Dd has the barest beginnings of a Facebook page for her line, which she's calling Pret 18. I keep telling her to load some pictures, but she keeps wandering off to do schoolwork. Go figure.)

I've found some Our Generation outfits and shoes are just a tad too tight for the American Girl Doll. The outfits will technically fit, but certain ones look awful because I have to squeeze the doll into the clothes to get the elastic to close. This isn't all the outfits. We have 2 OG boots that are too tight for the AG, but OG slip on "flats" that go with the dresses fit just fine on the same AG.

If you like to sew, there is a website with free patterns of the all the outfits for the 3-4 original AG dolls.

She has one girl of Grace doll which is thinner two AG dolls, Kaya and one of the ones you pick yourself. We've done the AG clothes and some on the target clothes which fit her girl of Grace doll fine so good to note they may not work for the AG dolls.

Thanks for all suggestions! Looking forward to checking then out!

A friend of mine makes quality clothes for American Girl dolls and at a very reasonable price. She has a textile degree and has been sewing for 40+ years and sells on ebay. Do an advanced search for the seller:  jansews2 to see her items. (Although right now, I see there is nothing listed.) She may be selling for an art show this weekend and has gotten behind.  She often makes things such as Halloween costumes (for both kids and dolls), nice Christmas dresses, pj sets and First Communion dresses for AG dolls, to name a few. If you would like to contact her personally, message me and I can help make a connection. She has sold for years on ebay and has very fair postage prices.
