I need book recommendations please - page turners!

It has been a long time since I have read anything that keeps me up at night needing to finish the book. I miss it. I would love to know some of the books that kept you turning the page and staying up in the wee hours of the morning.

Outside of nonfiction and sci-fi I am really up for anything. Though I suppose fantasy is pretty hit or miss as in love Harry Potter, can't stand Lord of the Rings.

So let me know what you recommend 😀

I would say The Martian, except you requested no sci-fi (it's more tech than sci-fi IMO, but the library label on the spine says SCI-FI).

I could not put it down, read it in one day saying "Go away!" to anyone who tried to interrupt me.

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah was another book I couldn't put down. So, so good.  And definitely not sci-fi.

I'm mostly a sci-fi kind of gal. These are few non-sci-fi I have enjoyed.

Non-Fiction - The Boys In The Boat, The Glass Castle, The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks, the Woman Who Wasn't There, Brain On Fire,

Fiction - The Girl On The Train, All The Light We Can Not See, What Alice Forgot, Landline (sort of Sci-fi, but not the focus), Still Alice,

I missed the no- non fiction comment. Sorry!

I did read The Martian. It took me awhile, but I did hit the point of not being able to put it down. I'll check out the other recommendation.

I just read:

Dear Committee Members (funny if you're in academia or the humanities but especially both)

How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia (not quite as fast bur absolutely brilliant)

The Betrayers (fascinating, fascinating fiction from a uniquely Israeli viewpoint)

The Song of Achilles, told from Patroclus's point of view, kept me up at night to finish it AND made me cry. Features gods, heroes, the excitement of battle, and same-sex romance.

The Adrien English Mysteries was a page-turning series for me. The title character is a writer who operates a fabulous book shop while dealing with family drama, unexpected mysteries, and same-sex romance. It is a complete series.

I just plowed through the Kathleen George Pittsburgh mysteries pretty quickly; it is best to read them in order if you can (for character development more than plot purposes). Police procedural with interesting side characters and opposite-sex romance.

Gone Girl was a suspenseful read, cheesy but fun. It definitely kept me turning the pages and I just went to the library to pick up two more by Gillian Flynn. This fictional riff on the Scott Peterson case spotlights opposite-sex romance gone horribly wrong, slowly revealed secrets, and many, many crazy people.

I just read StationEleven and it was pretty addictive!

After Station Eleven I read the book No Country for Ice Cream Star, which I liked even better. Sadly, I thought the ending could have been stronger, but I was amazed at the consistency of dialect.

Gone Girl I almost returned to the library, but then I hit the mid-point and could no longer put the book down or think of returning it. After reading Gone Girl I couldn't finish the new book Fates and Furies. It felt like a shallow imitation.
