Using umbrella's code vs. state homeschool code for PSAT?

Recommended Posts

Our umbrella has a code that they want us to use for testing.  I had planned to use our state's homeschool code but now I"m wondering if there is a valid reason to use the umbrella's code vs. the state code.  Any thoughts?  When my dd took the PSAT last year as a 10th grader, we used the state code.  Does it make a difference for 11th grade?

When I use an umbrella school, I am not under the "homeschool laws" in my state.  So, I send the results (with ACT and also PSAT) to our cover school and it's in the record that way.  They'll print it on transcript too (well, the ACT anyway).  Does it matter in the long run?  probably not for National Merit reasons.

But I think that it affects their ability to be able to host the PSAT locally.   My cover school is the host school and they get a church gym as testing site for us.   I figure it makes it easier on them.

just one reason why I do it like they ask

ah good point... the cover school receives the results first then  the cover school I use does mail our results to us (including the exam book). The extra day in the mail wasn't that big of a deal for our needs at all.  But I guess it could matter if other places don't do all of that. (and with ACT it didn't matter because that was available online to us pretty fast. )

It also matters if the school takes weeks to distribute PSAT results. That is an annual source of angst for many here and on College Confidential--schools have results and sit on them.
