While you don't need the teacher's book, I like having it, so I can see what it is that they are expecting. RootAnn Posted September 5, 2015 Share Posted September 5, 2015 I originally didn't have the TM, but realized that it was helpful for me to have. It contains the same stuff as in the student's book (plus answers), so I can use my book & she can use hers. I'm using it this year with my dd#3 who is roughly 4th grade and a so-so writer. Or do you just mean that outlining stories or these stories in this book in particular is a bad idea? Can you tell I am not an English teacher? No I used it with my 6th grader, quickly. Chrysalis Academy Posted September 7, 2015 Share Posted September 7, 2015 Yeah, outlining nonfiction passages, which are typically written to convey information, is a great skill. Practice it at will! But outlining stories is totally different - stories are constructed differently from nf passages, for a different purpose. ScoutTN Posted September 7, 2015 Author Share Posted September 7, 2015 I ordered the book and Dd is excited about it because she enjoyed Fable so much in 3rd grade. We are going to skip the outlining exercises in Narrative 2 and just stick with outlining practice in science and history. I am very comfortable teaching that skill anyway. This year is a hodgepodge for Dd in writing, some following SWB's lecture on middle grade writing, a little CAP, reading through Paragraph Town and who knows what might come up later in the year.
