After DD spoke on the phone with her Academic Advisor this morning, We received an email "Welcome to TTUISD High School!"   "Welcome to the Red Raider Nation and Texas Tech Family!"

DD began with two 6th grade TTUISD courses, during October 2012. At that time, her ability to write and read in U.S. English, and her knowledge of English grammar were very poor, after four school years in a school where Spanish was the teaching language and English was a subject they taught very poorly. And, there were several new "Online" courses she had to wait for, until they were ready.

A year or so ago, I asked DD, "Is Art still your favorite subject?" and her reply was, "I can't believe I am going to say this, but I think English is my favorite subject now". When I asked her why, she told me because it was interesting.

I am very proud of her, for having made the transition from Spanish to English so quickly, and for the very high grades she has received.

DD needs to have at least 26 credits to graduate, 6 1/2 credits per school year, but she is going to take 7 credits, so that will be a heavy load and excellent preparation for university.

I will be following this board now, hoping to learn about scholarship opportunities, etc. as DD goes through High School.

P.S.

We are "Distance Learners" but we have many things in common with Home Schoolers

Yeah for your daughter! Welcome to the high school board :)

PS We are also outside of the USA, and my 9th grader has seven credits as well.

Thank you!  My belief is that 7 credits is going to be a very tough load, but it is necessary.   The Biology textbook weighs almost 6 pounds.   I would struggle, to pass the Biology course.    :-)

DD14 makes daily comparisons between her book bag and carrying around concrete cinder blocks.  Love the material - hates how heavy the textbooks have become!

Welcome to the High School Board!

Thank you!   When DD was in K4, K5 and First grade, she had a bag on wheels. That's not "cool"  and the kids are destroying their physical health, with too many pounds of books in their backpacks.  A few concrete blocks would probably weigh about the same as a few High School textbooks.
