1shortmomto4
I promise- last question - for now. Has anyone used this level? Outcomes? Positive/Negative? I'm trying to decide between Level E or MathMammoth Grade 6 and 7 books (pick and choose units). This learner is RB/VSL - but leans more towards print. MUS would normally work but he hates the black & white and studying basically one subject for the year is a cause for major breakdowns. This kiddo can do algebra concepts (we worked through Hands On Equations last summer) and loved it but still needed some work on decimals, wee bit on fractions and we've not even covered percents or that whole set of numbers to the left of 0. We've also not covered much geometry. This kid prefers to work in units so working on say fractions for awhile and then giving it a rest and letting that process in his brain (never neded to be reviewed again) and work on something else. RS is expensive! but I'll do it if it would give him the final skills he needs to enter Algebra next year because I don't see him doing a whole other year of reviewing to then go into Algebra in 9th (which all my other kids did). It is so hard to hold them back when they get the advanced concepts but the basics are still a wee bit shakey. Anyone?
PeterPan
No, you still need fractions, etc. after RS E. Doesn't sound like what you need. Did you do the placement test and look at the toc? They have a strong return policy, but I wouldn't start that late for a single subject when what you're wanting is pre-algebra. Or else they've totally redone the content since we had it. I suppose that could have happened. Have you looked at BJU?
1shortmomto4
Well that helps. I did look at BJU and originally thought about the Fundamentals level because he's not quite strong enough for their PreAlgebra. Maybe I better go back and look at that again. PreAlgebra opens with negative numbers - haven't gone there except in the HOE problems.
PeterPan
Or even their math 5 or math 6. If you do fundamentals, just go for the old edition. Just saying. They bumped the new editions and it's just wicked for strugglers. The old edition will be fine for this and cheaper too.
Heathermomster
I combined this with MUS for Pre-Algebra. MUS blocks are awesome for integer math because you can turn them upside down to rep a negative number. I really liked the McDougal-Littell Pre-Algebra text but can't quite identify why. Because you're linear sequential and like textbooks. No, seriously, I don't know why. I've never even seen that textbook. But if you bring me cheesecake, I'll help you figure out why. :D You realize I STILL have not gotten ice cream or cheesecake? Days now, days of torture thinking about ice cream and cheesecake. And every time I go to the door to get some, I talk myself out of it with oh you need to lose weight, oh it's late. I must solve this problem. :drool5:

Go get cheesecake!
