Kefir experts please help: left the grains sitting outside for 2 hours

I have a new set of Kefir grains and I have been successfully making kefir for 2 weeks. Yesterday, I strained my kefir grains out and went to look for a fresh glass jar to start a new batch and forgot about it for 2 hours due to dinnertime needing my attention. When I realized that the grains had been sitting on the strainer for 2 hours, I quickly put them back in a jar of fresh milk. They had some leftover creamy curd like stuff coating them in the strainer.

Today, I see no signs of the milk kefir-ing. Did leaving them out without the milk for 2 hours kill them? My internet search says that they are virtually indestructible, but I am not seeing any change in the milk. It is hot here and I usually get kefir in 14 hours in the summer. Today, nothing has happened in 18 hours, so I am wondering if there is anything I can do to help them along, if they are still alive.
