Josh Duggar checked himself into rehab

It's linked here: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/jessa-duggar-seewald-finally-turns-back-on-brother-josh/

I fear that Jessa is just following the Seewalds now, instead of the Duggars. Hopefully I am wrong.

I'm hoping that she is just happy that she has the support of the Seewald family so she can finally say what she wants about Josh. In the past, she was under JimBob's control. Now, not so much.

Or... her newfound anti-Josh status could be all JimBob's idea, as an attempt to get at least one of the Duggars on the good side of the media and potential television viewers, so Jessa and Ben might still have a chance at getting their own show. I wouldn't put it past him.

Except people magazine had an article that stated he was ADAMENTLY against them getting spin off show, so they declined.

Thanks -- I wasn't aware of that. But was that before or since the big Josh scandals? The timing might make a difference. Initially, I'll bet JimBob was so arrogant and convinced of the Duggar fans' devotion to the show that he assumed that he and Michelle could go on TV and act tearful and remorseful and all would be forgiven, so their show would stay on the air. At this point, though, he might be desperately grasping at straws.

That shows how far out of the loop I am. I assumed other online dating sites were chock full of people pretending to be something other than who they really are.  And that hookups were more common than real relationships.

But like I said...I'm out of the loop on this kind of thing.

The particularly annoying thing about Sproul is that he JUST wrote a scathing blog post criticizing Josh. What an idiot. Why not just keep quiet??? Oh, wait. Because these men have egos that are bigger than life.

I'm sure there are plenty of posers on those sites, but I know of at least one couple IRL who met and have been long-term happily married from a dating website.

After the first one about sex abuse came out, before they announced the cancellation or the AshleyMadison & cheating things came out.

I met DH on an online dating site. Proposed after 3 weeks, married at 3.5 months. Still married, 14 years this fall.

I didn't mean to offend- I know several people who met their spouse online. But they usually have some stories of the crazies they met along the way. I just meant that if Sproul was looking for love, AM seems like a goofy place to go.  I think I'm realizing that AM is really just a glorified 'escort service' isn't it?

Slightly on topic - I think online dating is how most people meet their spouses now.  DH and I are the only ones in our circle of friends under the age of 60 who did not meet online.  We met the old fashioned way.  A terrifying blind date setup by friends/family.

Yes. It is not a place to meet future spouses.

There is a real difference between being on an online dating site as a single person looking for romance and being on an adultery website as a married person looking for one-nighters and hook-up sex.

And that difference is HUGE.

Yep.  I don't think he was looking for love.  Sex - yes.  Love/long term relationship - no.

Totally my mistake. I had no idea there was such a difference between services like eHarmony and Tinder, for example. Today I learned. My apologies to those I offended.

I'm curious if Farmers' Only is legit. The commercials make it look like a creepy mail order bride (or more short term connection) service. ;)

We didn't meet on Ashley Madison though. Cough. For the record. :P

It was a vegetarian dating site. Sort of niche. We'd both been veggies for 12-13 years. Ironically, we started eating meat after our first child was born.

Here's the proof!

Scroll way down to the 2001 section, or do a search for Larry. He's the guy in the grey suit!

Slightly new agey phrasing :P. I was an atheist witch, he was a MMY bum hopper.

Also ironically we were born again after our 2nd DD was born. Life is funny that way.

Met my DH on a dating website as well, OKCupid, which Josh Duggar also used, sigh. Yes, met some WEIRD people on there, but fell in love with my wonderful husband and NEVER would have met him otherwise. We lived hours away from each other. Married 7 years now and more in love than before.

I hope that any spin off show doesn't allow JB to even be on it in any way.

Another who met my DH online here. On a Christian dating website. And my DH is not a weirdo, LOL. He's actually the first guy I ever went out with from a dating website. We actually had mutual friends (a married couple) but for whatever reason our paths didn't cross. I have been involved with far more weirdos in real life. It's not 1993 anymore, there are more than just weirdos on the internet. But I do think the internet provides an inherent way to more easily sneak around if one is so inclined.

To teach the public schools how to make a proper Tater Tot Casserole!

Their menus gag me (says the mom who cheerfully admits to always having Kraft macaroni on hand). In one episode, Michelle remarked, with a completely straight face, on how great it was that ramen was both cheap and nutritious.

We used to know a family with ten kids. The dad was an engineer and the mom stayed home to homeschool the kids. Their budget for food was $700 a month for 12 people! I think they ate mostly bread and other starchy stuff. I can't imagine there was much room for produce and meat in there.

When I met DH, the internet was still Al Gore's top-secret project. Or something like that. ;)

 Us too.

That said, we know a number of people (including my brother- and sister-in law) who met their spouses on line.  None on AM, though!  Different match sites focus on different niches; I don't think AM was (cough) matrimonially oriented.

Congratulations!

I would have liked your post, but somehow I am out of "likes" after having visited the site for only 1/2 hour so far today.  Don't know how that happened?

It can be very difficult for adults to meet each other these days.  I think online dating services fill an important gap in our community.
