nobeatenpath
We are currently working through this - my son (11) is not overly enamoured with it and finds it a little boring, but he is not keen on anything that is not computer games or manga at the moment ... Arcadia
There are games software for music theory fundamentals so that might suit your child. Some libraries have them under the educational software shelf in the kid non-fiction section. This free course is useful for parents who would like to outsource an introduction to music theory for whatever reason and is facing budget constraints for class/curriculum. I did relearn some things that I have forgotten and I had music theory as part of piano lessons for 12 years.
DragonFaerie
My daughter is not a beginner, but she is enjoying this course. She is especially tickled by the differences in terms between Europe and America.
