LolaT
So I'm doing RSM Level G Geometry for 6th grade for DD. RightStart Math recommends the VideoText PreAlgebra to be done concurrently. It's pretty expensive though and really old. I'm wondering if she could just use Khan Academy for Pre-Algebra but looking at the website I don't have a clear sense of how it works. There doesn't seem to be a lot of practical work to be done. How can the "course" be scheduled? How can I see if she's on track as far as completing enough of it over a certain period of time. Do I need to set it up as a "Parent" with "Children" or as a Coach with "Students"? Would appreciate any insight into this.

Guest2
I can' t speak to RS and haven't used Khan for this. Videotext is fantastic for a mathy kid. Pre-alg is included in their alg1-alg2 program. It is a great program for developing problem solving skills. My DS1 did this for 7-8 th grade and completed Alg 1 and 2 . It was a wonderful experience for him. Though it is an older program, it has been highly reccomended for years. Edited to add, you can often buy it used. If buying new, you should be able to resale to recoup some of the expense.
Momto6inIN
I agree about Video Text. My oldest loved it and learned a ton from it and my 2nd son is starting it now. They do have an online version that's cheaper than the print version.
