Heathermomster
Who here has a student that consistently types their math, and what program do they use? I'd appreciate any and all feedback, Thank-you, ~h
Heathermomster
I am sorry. I should have been more clear. My son's handwriting is a hot mess and it is interfering with his ability to perform the factor label method in Chemistry. I need an equation editor that is quick and easy to use. Heathermomster
OK, we are trying MathType Equation Editor, and thus far, it is the easiest. Google Chrome has a free equation editor called Daun, but I couldn't figure it out quickly like MathType.
geodob
Microsoft provide 2 programs that you could use, which are free. Their is Microsoft Mathematics 4 which is a separate program. http://www.microsoft.com/education/en-au/products/Pages/mathematics.aspx Then their is: Microsoft Mathematics Add-In for Word and OneNote. That provides the ability to type and do equations in a Word or OneNote document. Which might be more suitable, for what you want? http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=17786
Heathermomster
Thanks Geofff. We have tried the first one, but not the second link. We'll give it a go, and hopefully make it long term. We are to the point where something has to give. There was an awesome thread about typing math last year, and I cannot find it.
Heathermomster
Ok, the Microsoft add-on is by far the easiest program simply because you can edit the equations in the Word doc if you make a mistake and need to correct, exactly as Geoff stated! The equations can also be solved and there are various plot functions, which would have been awesome to use last semester. I like MathMagic Lite; however, the equations are saved as png files to be copied into a document. Once copied within the document, the equations are not very readable. I played with the fonts and sizes and saw some improvement, but the quality was not super great for printing. Also, you cannot edit equations once they are a png file. So, please wish us luck. I am learning as much as I can to decrease the learning curve for DS. We need to get up to speed quickly as he will be in class next Tuesday.. Thank-you again Geoff.
