Ugh....It's the week of conference

Recommended Posts

And the hiccups are starting. At least this year it's a sick cat, not a sick husband-and the cat can be boarded at the vet's office where I know he'll be cared for.

Plus DD and I are registered for a student event-which we may or may not be allowed to attend since I'm not a "currently enrolled student". I've told them, point blank, that if they're comfortable with her attending alone, I'll happily send her and go elsewhere for that hour. We'll see what happens. It won't surprise me if they try the "this is for college students" thing (it's a PARC workshop, not an SSAR one-and the pre-bac program is part of SSAR).

DD's cheap pay as you go cell phone will gladly let me add funds to her account-but they're not showing on the phone. Which may be more important if they decide that I can't attend student sessions...

And usual packing for a 10 yr old attending a multi-day professional conferences (well, except for the photobombing cat...) Stuffed reptiles/amphibians haven't been added to the stack...yet. 11707376_10206337020178707_715455283840611811370_10206337020138706_7315381299716

I'm confused by the bolded. It is for college students, isn't it? Wouldn't it be reasonable for them to question a ten-year-old attending? I know you've said she is working at college level in some areas, but it seems fair for the issue to be raised. I'm not sure what the event is, but there may be good reason for them to try the " 'this is for college students' thing".

As far as her attending alone after they've made it a sticking point... I would want to make sure it is something she can absolutely handle on her own. Social situations can be tricky. I would want to make sure her maturity level can handle the event before I went to extra lengths for her to gain admittance. Didn't she end up needing some downtime at the conference she went to last summer?

OK, we have the workshop figured out. Apparently, they hadn't connected DD with me-so DD was on the list as a mentoring program student, but I was just a non-student member. Just like with the registration, it seems to be a case of information not being passed on. This isn't a social/networking event. We do skip those because DD isn't graduating any time soon, and because alcohol usually is common. If DD is comfortable, I'd be OK with her going to this one herself, but I don't think the organizers would be (the official pre-bac rules require an adult chaperone for any student, even those who have already turned 18 and were driving themselves to DE classes for the last couple of years).

And we managed to get the money added to DD's phone, so she can get the hundreds of texts a day that seem to get passed around. I wish I were exaggerating.

The cat is on fluids and is at least more stable, and will be staying the night at the vet's.

The cat is eating again after a dose of Valium. The theory is dental pain, so the plan is to,give him one more dose of Valium and let him eat for a few more hours, than take him off oral food/fluids so they can do the dental that seems to be the cause tomorrow, and hopefully have him out of surgery and recovering before we leave (which would be a big relief) He'll be boarded at the clinic while we're gone so they can monitor him and give him medication (I'm willing to ask our pet sitter to handle snakes, cats, frogs, and a visiting lizard, but not a sick cat) while we're gone.
