Guest Debbie4Him
I have been homeschooling my three grandchildren for three years and I enjoy it very much. I would like to invite two or three other children to join us this year. Does anyone know if this is legal in Texas and how can I determine what to charge? I am not a cetified teacher, but I do have a Bachelor's Degree. I worked as a Teacher's Assistant in Content Mastery and as a substitute teacher for many years, but I can't charge the amount that certified teachers would charge. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance, Debbie Wieske Fort Worth, Texas
almondbutterandjelly
You might check with Texas Homeschooling Coalition's website. I want to say it is a gray area, legally, but I'm not positive.
OneStepAtATime
Definitely check with THSC but I would think you could charge since in Texas we are considered a private school and private schools are not legally required to hire certified teachers. I would think you could also call yourself a tutor and charge for the service that way. In fact, there is a local parent that was teaching several kids besides just her own for a couple of years and she was charging a fee. I don't know what legal hoops she jumped through, if any, but I know she wasn't a certified teacher. She was really good at facilitating learning, though, so the kids did well.
