Monica_in_Switzerland
This is a whine. :-) It was so easy for the first few years. Now oldest is going into 3rd grade, and I feel like it's time to step it up. dd is going into 1st grade and is ready for some real work as well. The French (required) I need to teach is getting hard. The German (required) is something I need to learn in order to teach! The math is taking longer, the time spent in editing/corrections is taking longer, the time the pre-k'r and baby need is getting longer... And it's so miserably hot! And I need to plan! And I just want to sit around and drink ice water and eat dried mango! Sigh. I wish I could lay around at the pool and make some plans, but I'll be busy making sure no one drowns. Boohoo me. Ok, all done.
katilac
You think it's hard now? Just wait until high school! *insert evil cackle here*
wintermom
Sounds like it's your expectations that are drastically changing, combined with challenging subjects. I'd get a tutor for the languages (perhaps a high school student), and not panic about the other subjects. Grade three is still very, very young. Relax and enjoy your time with your dc. Grade 3 is usually a time in children's development when they are ready to work and think harder and deeper than in grades 1 and 2, but it's still young. Don't think 3 = high school suddenly. Just carry on with what you've been doing. If you are going to make additions to the workload, do it in small, gradual steps - for the child as well as for yourself.

That will help with the workload tremendously. Network. Find a student willing to teach. As mentioned above, this isn't High School. You still have time. The kids are little. I realize when your 3rd grader is the oldest it SEEMS like you really need to up the ante, and certainly 3rd grade is where many kids really start needing a lot more depth and breadth in academics. It is still 3rd grade, though. Take a deep breath, read through other threads, find some peace. Good luck and best wishes.

JudoMom
You can do it. Each new phase seems hard until you've done it once :). Enjoy the days!
Maela
And it's so miserably hot! And I need to plan! And I just want to sit around and drink ice water and eat dried mango! Mmmmm...dried mango... Now I need to go to the store. Thanks! I will also have a third grader this coming year. I don't know why, but I'm not worried about it. Maybe I should be! :-)

momacacia
It's a great time to focus on the 3Rs still. Find your freedom in that...and a few good books.
