BrandonMommy
Wondering how long AA4 took your child to finish?
mmasc
My DS is 9, fourth grade, and we started it in October-ish I think. We still have about 4 'steps' left in the book before we finish. That includes taking off time at Christmas. I plan to finish it in June, then start level 5 in the fall.

pitterpatter
Well, there are 63 lessons in the book, so that is likely about how many days it will take us to complete it. We complete all components of the lessons. We are on lesson 13 right now. We are working through it this summer, so we can have it out of the way and focus back on AAS, which is currently on hiatus. We are using it to remediate/fill in gaps, if that makes a difference.
mmasc
Are you speaking of AAR or AAS? Sorry! I'm talking about Spelling. I think the OP wants answers to Reading...oops! Guess I should've finished my coffee before posting. :)
Jess4879
We started AAR 4 with our third grader the beginning of January and she will be done by the end of June. Level 4 has been the quickest, by far.
mermo
We did 5 lessons a week, my twins moved through it without issues, mid way through 2nd grade.
LynnG in Arizona
I started it with my 2nd and 3rd graders around October of last year. I think I might purposely stretch it out so that it takes about a year and a half in all to finish. The phonics are pretty advanced, and AAR4 contains a lot of other things such as literary terms and devices. I find it to be a very rich and wonderful program. It won't be baby-ish at all to be wrapping this up by the end of 3rd/4th grade, in my opinion. Just to clarify, we're also doing a bit of other reading aloud as well in-between the AAR lessons. Mostly high quality readers such as what are found in the Sonlight and Heart of Dakota catalogs.
ByGrace3
My ds started AAR 4 on Sept 10 and finished March 10. We could have gone faster, but felt no need to rush it.
AppleGreen
Similar to an above poster-we started AAR 4 with my 3rd grader sometime in late February or early March and should wrap up by mid-June. I think we are on lesson 47. Toward the end we have occasionally done two lessons in one day, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend that. My child is reading pretty fluently and some of these last few lessons on the -ice, -ace etc. suffixes are really short. I will say the stories are pretty long! Phew! strawberryjam
Halfway through AAR 3 with my third grader currently who is reading at a fifth grade level. We are doing a lesson per day so unless it all of a sudden gets really hard I think we'll be done AAR 4 in the first few months of grade 4. There have been times in the past where we did 2 lessons per day or skipped some. His reading took off really fast all of a sudden a couple months ago but we go through the lessons anyways as reinforcement. If it's too easy we don't do the activity, just review the flash cards and rules and then move on.

Thanks everyone. Very helpful. I'm going to go ahead and order it thanks to you all and have a look see if we can complete it over the summer. That would be lovely.
