sarawatsonim
I am thinking of using Henle next year for 6th and I have no idea what I need to purchase to make it work. I looked up some old threads to get an idea but the links to books and sites didn't work anymore so I thought I would try a fresh thread. I read something about a syllabus for it, is that necessary or is it just really helpful? I like really helpful when it is in regards to making my planning and scheduling easier ;) Thanks! wapiti
You'd want the Henle I text, the Henle grammar book (fwiw, I had these spiral-bound at the office store to open flatter), and an answer key. I'm trying to remember where the more complete key is - see the Seton website (key is more complete than Fr. Henle's key). http://www.setonbooks.com/viewone.php?ToView=S-L1HS-12 Extras: IMO the MODG syllabi are quite useful for the tests and quizzes contained therein. (See https://www.motherofdivinegrace.org/curriculum/syllabi; MODG has syllabi separating Henle I into two years or a faster syllabus covering the whole text in one year. For 6th gr, I'd go with the two years.) For pacing, Henle is pretty much open-and-go. (Disclaimer, my dd used GSWL prior to Henle, and that prior exposure was very helpful.) IIRC, the MP guides are too slow. There is a very inexpensive pronunciation CD someplace, probably Seton, that I bought but never used. http://www.setonbooks.com/viewone.php?ToView=P-L1HS-16 There are a lot of helpful hints in a little booklet by a nun, published by Loyola Press - let me see if I can find it... here it is http://www.loyolapress.com/henle-latin-series-first-and-second-years.htm
Targhee
A magnifying glass. You only need the text (Henle First Year Latin) and the Henle grammar. Really that is it. But if you want pacing, a syllabus is useful - Mother of Divine Grave and Memoria Press both have them. Like mentioned above, the MP syllabi move very slowly through the book. I also recently came across this blog that has free copies of the exercises formatted in a less dense way. She also has some other resources. http://magistrajones.blogspot.com/?m=1
sdobis
I liked the Memoria Press syllabus. The speed and repetition worked well for my son.
