Bump.

Hoping for feedback from Halcyon or others who have used TabletClass Geometry.  Thanks in advance!  :bigear:

I sent Halcyon a PM. she said the geometry is very solid and quite rigorous. she is very pleased with it. She said it is a stand alone program.

HI there!

Yes, my son is currently in Geometry with Tablet Class (well, he took 3 months off to take AoPS Counting and Probability, but will resume TC Geometry next week). It is a solid, clear, fairly rigorous program. It is not at the level of AoPS, mind you, but is definitely sufficient to prepare him for the next step. My son is math-y, but gravitates towards video explanations of things (for example, he preferred watching to Richard Ruszek videos to reading the text while doing AoPS).

One thing we find particuarly positive about TC Geometry is the video explanations of the solutions not just the lectures themselves. DS rarely has trouble with problems, but when he does, he can watch John actually work out the problem so he can see where he went astray.

The layout of the course, for us, isn't the best. It can be annoying to click on the little links, trying to remember where you are. I think we are supposed to be evaluating each section according to DS' understanding of the work each class, but we don't do that. So maybe that's our fault.

I am linking to the course checklist which explains what the course covers. The student is expected to check off each section as they complete it, and write their grade down as they go.

Oh, and onen more thing. My student does this basically completely independently, as has since TC Pre-Algebra. If your student is responsible about working through the course, I think most will find this to be a student-led course without much need for parent involvelment.

Here is the course checklist.

I have three children who are working through it right now.

14yo son - Pre Algebra (completed 15 lessons so far)

He said he understands tabletclass math better than with a regular textbook and likes how the program is set up.

15yo daughter - Algebra 1 (completed 18 lessons so far)

Appreciates how detailed his videos are but struggles with word problems and he barely has any so far.

17yo daughter - Algebra 2 & Geometry (completed 17 & 11 lessons so far)

She really likes it but thinks it needs more exercises after explanations so we supplement (see below). Also, the author says not to memorize the postulates but she found this doesn't work for her. So she is going to write them on index cards and memorize them.

Over all I really like it and will have them continue using it all the way through. However, we use it for instruction and use Dolciani algebra 1 & 2 and Jurgensen geometry for more practice. My children start out their day with tabletclass, complete the exercises, I grade them and then they move on to their text (Dolciani & Jurgensen) lessons.

In the 18 years I've been homeschooling, I've been let down way too many times by "easy/light" math programs. I think we're into double digits on how many we've tried. Now I have all of my children (there are 10 and they are advanced, average and remedial) go through the same challenging lessons. The only difference is how I teach it. The advanced don't need me, the average on occasion and the remedial every lesson.

Hope that helps! If you have any specific questions about tabletclass, just let me know.

A couple of reasons but the main one was cost. My children study Geometry and Algebra 2 concurrently. Tabletclass has the option to upgrade your account to be able to access all the levels of math offered for only $99. This is what my 17yo is doing now. I should also mention, this is her second time around in Geometry. She completed another geometry curriculum that was so simple that I'm now using it as an intro to geometry for my younger children.

Does your child finish (Dolciani & Jurgensen)texts just by watching tablet class videos or do they need your help?

Hi,

We have not used TabletClass, but from reading their web site and emails, I believe the $50 offer for one course means that your ds can only do Pre-Algebra in the first $50 purchase. If he wants to switch to Algebra, that will be counted as a second course and you will have to buy another $50 one-year access.

If you are confident that he can finish Pre-Algebra in 6-7 months and move on to Algebra, the $99 offer for four courses is a good option for you.

Otherwise, from what I've seen, the $50 for one course offer keeps coming up every few months. You can always purchase the next course when he's done with the first. Even at $50 per course, TabletClass is the most affordable video course I have seen.

VANURSEPRAC,

It looks like the Tableclass sale will last until at least 7/31.

You can read the sale details at this link if you scroll down a bit

http://tabletclass.com/homeschool/tabletclass-math-discount.aspx

Going back and forth to sign up and delay till Sept 1 or just wait for next sale as:  D12 will not be starting geometry till probably March or April.  She has the last  5 chapters of Foerster Alg 1 to start when school starts end of August, but we are slowing the last 5 chapters down because of WWSI class.
