Atelier Art Question -- Where can I see samples of the videos?

Recommended Posts

I have been considering Atelier Art for our upcoming school year, but I can't seem to find samples of the DVDs anywhere. Am I missing something on the site? I've tried Youtube, also, with no results. I'd really like to see the video quality and the instructor before putting out that amount of money. For me, it's a BIG RED FLAG that a DVD-based curriculum has no video samples on the site (or seemingly anywhere). What's up with that?

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

I've never seen samples at their website either.  It's as if it's all hush-hush or something (at least that's the feel I got). But then again, maybe I just can't find them.

I don't know if this is true or not...but I read a post on this board that Arts Attack is the public school version of Atelier.  If this is true, then Arts Attack has two samples you can watch.  I really hope that someone who is using Atelier can check the two samples and let us know if it is the same / if it's the same lady.  I have a list of the lessons in Atelier, and they do have two lessons that would match up with the sample lessons at Arts Attack.

ETA: We opted to go with Home Art Studio (the full set) instead of Atelier.  Also, if you want to really save some money...you might want to look at Arttango; it's free.   ;)   Although, it's not a DVD program...but it's nice as a supplement at least.

We use Atelier Level 2.  Neither of the sample lessons correspond with any in Level 2 but the instructor and method are the same.

Thank you for checking the samples.  According to the Atelier list of lessons I have,  I can't really find one specifically on sunflowers, like the first Arts Attack sample...but there are some on Vincent Van Gogh.

As for the 2nd sample, there is this Atelier lesson in Module 6B:

ART HISTORY: CLIPPER SHIPS Students study paintings, pictures and models of clipper ships and the role they played in American history; they draw and paint clipper ships using ship models and pictures; they paint the sea in the style of Homer. (9:30)

This would correspond to that clipper ship sample, where she also mentions that they've learned to paint like Homer in a previous lesson.

Sooo...all this to say that I think if you want to see what Atelier is like you can assume it will be like these Arts Attack samples.

ETA: Actually, Artelier has a new List of Objectives for each of the lessons.  It's newer than the old list I had the listed by modules (have they done away with modules?  Maybe).  Anyway, in the newer list they do have a lesson in level 1 called Drawing and Color: Sunflowers.  It is that same Arts Attack lesson sample.

Which level are you interested in? I have level 3. As a fellow long time WTM board member, I will gladly send it to you. As long as your need isn't immediate, as I am currently recovering from surgery.

When I requested the code to watch the Arts Attack samples, I asked them if they were the same as Atelier.  Here's the reply I got:

Atelier is actually a subset of Arts Attack. The lessons you view on the
Arts Attack site are also Atelier lessons.

You can also view some lessons by going to our new website which hosts our
new Atelier Online program.

Our new “online†website is
http://store.artsattack.com. (no www in the
address)

We are in the process of consolidating the new and old websites, but it will
take a month or 2 to do it.

You can go on this site and log in to one of our Sales Demo Accounts to view
some Atelier lessons. The User Name is Xsalesdemo619 and the Password is
visart7722. This log-in will be good until 6/7/15. When you get logged in,
click on My Account and then My Online Products to get access to the
lessons.

I have attached some material about the online program. We think it’s a big
step up from the old DVD-based program, but the DVD program is still
available for those that prefer it. The online program is also considerably
less expensive than the DVD program: $140 per level, including the Digital
Art Image program.

If I can answer any other questions or you need more information, let me

know.

I wanted to point out that their new website looks almost the same as Arts Attack, but you can see that Atelier is mentioned as their Art for Homeschool.

Here are the links to the attachments he sent:

ETA: Rainbow Resource prices for the Atelier DVD's are still cheaper than Atelier Online.

I have level 1. It is all co-branded so everything says "Atelier Arts Attack". I am not in love with it all. It is not bad but I don't see my kids building any skill so this year I am trying Creating A Masterpiece. I just saw it at my homeschool convention and the work children were doing right there was miles and miles above the Atelier projects. Granted, it is more expensive but that isn't a factor for us (allotment). You should check it out.

Rainbow is the best price I have found lately. Homeschool Buyers Coop used to have better deals, but not since they released the online version. I still buy the DVDs because I don't like paying all that money for something I don't own. I like that I can gift or sell what I have when I am done.

CAM looks much more advanced even at level 1. Do you happen to know the recommended age? Which levels are meant for elementary age. Is it all subscription service?

I had considered Atelier a few years ago, then we opted for Home Art Studio.  I like it a lot.  Buuutt....my daughter, like most kids probably, can't get enough of art.  So...now I'm considering using Atelier too (using both, we could easily do one lesson a week and have enough for 36 weeks).  I've had a few conversations back and forth with a Larry from Atelier / Arts Attack.  He is very helpful.  Last night I asked if he had a supplies list for each level that he could send me (I couldn't find anything like that at their site other than a supplies kit...but that doesn't include everything).  He already sent me the list this morning.  So, if you have any questions about Atelier, don't hesitate to contact them.  They are very quick to reply, very nice, and very helpful.

Now to decide which level to get.  My daughter will be going into 6th, but she absolutely LOVES the level 3 sample of Fish on a Dish.  She's finishing it now and, I have to admit, it's pretty amazing.  She wouldn't be bothered by seeing younger kids in the video...so I'm considering going with Level 3.

Maybe I'll post a pic of her fish when she's finished.
