MistyMountain
My kid's school uses Saxon and they do ok with it but I want my dd especially to get practice on mental math rather then the traditional algorithm they use in Saxon. I do not need an entire curriculum I just want something to practice multi digit addition and subtraction mental math tricks.
Nart
There is a book called Number Talks that is all about practicing Mental Math. Here is a link to a third grade teacher doing a number talk lesson with her students on different ways to mentally solve a problem like 99+57.
debi21
I was just looking at the Scholastic Dollar Days - Mental Math Kids Can't Resist might be worth a try for $2 (pdf). http://teacherexpress.scholastic.com/mental-math-kids-can-t-resist You can preview the whole book - I am thinking about getting it. Too bad the deals these days seem to be 2-3 dollars instead of 1. I've been looking for the Algebra Readiness ones to be less than $5 for a year now. ETA: there is also Fast & Fun Mental Math for $1. Looks less kid-friendly, however.
