Ottakee
I saw this company featured on the local news today. They have clothing for kids with autism and other sensory integration issues. It is not cheap but the no zippers, no tags, no front or back, etc. might really help. They even have some clothes that have a tiny hidden pocket for a gps device. http://www.independencedayclothing.com/ Has anyone ever heard of them before?
kbutton
This is not a big issue for us, but I know folks to pass it on to. Thanks!
Ottakee
Here is the link to the story I saw on the news http://foxct.com/2015/04/27/mommy-minute-independence-day-clothing-empowers-kids-with-autism/ I have no affiliation with the clothing company but thought I would pass it on in case someone here needs this type of resource. AMJ
I am tempted to look into whether they have adult sizes -- for me. Tags drive me CRAZY.... NO one here "needs" these, but my, they are tempting. No more having to turn inside-out pants back right-side-out when doing laundry! No one notices and comments if a DC puts her shirt on backwards because she was distracted while dressing! If someone spills on their shirt or pants at lunch they can just visit a restroom to turn it "inside-out"! "Mo-om, I don't have any pants that go with this shirt!" "Try turning them inside-out. They are reversible, remember?" Kinda like getting twice the clothing for the same price and closet space. Hmm....
Ottakee
I think they said they will be having adult sizes coming. I can see these also being very useful for stroke patients, cognitively impaired kids, people with poor motor skills, etc. They actually look pretty cute as well, not like "special needs" clothing. Tiramisu
This has been the one of the most difficult issues we have had to deal with, with two of my children who do not have autism but SPD. It really has affected almost everyday of my life as a mom. One dd has completely outgrown it but the other needs to wear the same thing almost everyday. Thank you for posting this, Ottakee. I will keep checking the website for summer stuff.
fairfarmhand
That is so awesome! And the clothes are CUTE! and stylish. They don't scream "I have special needs."
AimeeM
I have one kiddo with sensory issues related to clothing (DS5). Honestly, though, I've never had a problem finding clothes for him - it seems most decent kid lines have gone "tag free" now, and I generally just search for pants and shirts that are soft (no "bumps" in the pants). Tsuga
I hate tags. I wish Hanna Anderson had more soft cottons for adults as well.
