Guest kpilcher53
Hi! This will be my first year homeschooling my only child, a rising 4th grader. After lots of research I am leaning towards CLE for Language Arts. My son is a whiz with spelling, can write well and creatively but I do not want him to become stagnant. I have already decided we will do read alouds, independent reading with book reports and topical research & writing projects. BUT, what are your thoughts on supplementing with any additional curriculum? Is CLE enough in your opinion? Do you supplement with anything else? Don't worry, he won't be bogged down. He loves reading and I plan on taking his first year nice, relaxing & easy. :)
alisoncooks
We use CLE LA and I'll have a 4th grader in the fall. I want to add writing, but I'm not sure with what. If your son writes well, maybe he would enjoy CAP W&R or Writing Tales. I don't know since I've not used them. You'd probably get more replies/opinions if you put this on the K-8 board. I think student writing samples are mostly what are posted on the Writing Workshop forum...?
Insertcreativenamehere
I use CLE with my 2nd and 4th graders and supplement the 4th grader with Writing and Rhetoric. We're on Fable now and will move to Narrative for 5th grade. For the 2nd grader, we are supplementing with Writing with Ease.
SnMomof7
We use CLE LA. 4th grade does not currently include built in creative writing if that is something you are looking for. Here is a recent thread where I outlined a few things about the program: http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/550220-would-love-some-feedback-on-cle-math-and-language-arts-programs/
