High School World History (Farrar Williams)

Recommended Posts

I know this is a strange place to post this, but I'm trying to catch Farrar's eye. I'm a mostly lurker that has gotten myself completely overwhelmed by world history for next year. My daughter is going into 9th grade and I was thinking of using Oak Meadow world history, but the Glencoe book seems too busy for my distractable girl. I prefer secular resources and I'm starting to question the feasibility of doing this in a year. Any suggestions for other programs out there? I'm already writing my own lit and biology. I was hoping not to have to create history too.

I used to teach high school world history in public school, but I haven't done it as a homeschooler so I feel like I probably don't know what the best resources are. I never saw a public school type text I liked. But most of the ones that I've seen that are commonly used for AP European I think are fine - I have some beat up old ones on my shelves - The Western Heritage and Western Civilization and I used to draw from them for readings sometimes when I was teaching. But... and this really dates me... the AP World History exam wasn't even being offered widely when I was teaching that particular course so I don't even know *those* materials well. Also, I used to use a lot of "real" books - excerpts from everything from Africa: A Reader to A Distant Mirror and I used primary source collections... it was very DIY which is what you don't want.

Now, if I was embarking on teaching a high schooler in the WTM style, I might use SWB's adult history books. But I'm not the best one to ask on this. I feel like all my resources are out of date (haha... for history! But still!).
