No it's real, but it's worse than the weirdest April Fool I've seen this year.

It cracks me up.  Like it's so hard for me to get on my computer and order stuff?!

I do order my toilet paper, cat food, and dish washer soap from them.  Believe it or not it's cheaper than my regular stores around here.  But I just can't imagine needing a button.

I get the convenience of this, but ... I've been burned too many times by prices that have increased (don't just use the "Place this order again" button!) and by insane shipping charges (don't use the "1-click buy now whatever it's called" button!). I've seen price increases from $35 to $50 only a couple months later, and shipping charges of $60 on an item that only cost $5. For me, any convenience would be negated by having to remember to check the order to make sure the price and shipping charges were reasonable.

ETA: I do a lot of shopping on Amazon. But I've learned to always be careful, to check the item price and the shipping charges BEFORE I hit "place my order."

I first saw it yesterday and really thought it was an April Fool's joke. I almost posted it, but then noticed articles on news and financial sites, so I was unsure. I still don't know what to think: Little plastic buttons stuck all over the house to order stuff??

I have a technonlogical, but simpler, solution. I have the Grocery Gadget app. It allows you to scan a barcode to add something to the list. Out of OJ? Whip the phone out of your pocket and scan the barcode of the empty bottle, and done.

(I at least hope all of those little plastic buttons are recyclable. )

Buttons near the toilet to reorder toilet paper?

Sounds like a great way to entertain a preschooler who is having to slow down to sit on the toilet for a couple of minutes. At least the family will be set for toilet paper until said preschooler heads off to college.

It only processes one order until the item is delivered.  Also, it sends a message to your phone so you can cancel if you see that pop up.

I don't have a smart phone. Not sure if this works with something other than a smart phone.  I just prefer to check prices before ordering.  Sometimes the prices are lower than my regular stores and sometimes not.

Oh c'mon. Haven't you ever been sitting on the toilet and realize you're almost out of TP? Of course, with a button, I'd expect it to magically appear. :)

Never. Our TP magically appears already. (Because I have it on Subscribe & Save) OTOH, if a drone magically appeared with my order, we might order TP one roll at a time!

It looks like manufacturers are working with Amazon to foster brand loyalty the same way they do with grocery cards that cue up coupons at the checkout. Meh.

And what's the use of it, really, if each account is limited to 3 buttons? I'll stick with my monthly subscribe & save. At least I know what I'm getting and can edit orders as needed. This is the 2nd Amazon gadget that has been by invitation only (the first being Amazon Echo - which we got).

I think the thing that annoys me the most about it is that you're now advertising products wherever you put the thing. I don't need to be reminded of what brand of toilet paper I use, or have visitors be bombarded with that when they walk in the bathroom.

Plus, I'm sure my three-year-old would make sure we were well-stocked on whatever items we had the button for...

Okay, I'll be the oddball and say that I like the idea! I can see me using that. I usually forget what I need to purchase by the time I sit down on the computer to place the order.

Me too!! I like it!

I don't like anything that places advertising in our home or on our family members.

Idk. Kinda the same a a bottle of Tide sitting there, kwim?

At the risk of sounding like more than a freak than I am, do you not transfer your soaps and detergents into smaller unlabeled containers? I keep the larger bottles in a cabinet out of sight.

Um... no.  I've never even thought about doing that!

Nope. I have 5 kids so I go through a big orange Members Mark bottle every month and it fits perfectly on the shelf above the washer. We all have our quirks though. I've decorated my laundry room which my sister thinks is insane.

I have never done that and never seen anyone else do it either.

May I ask what the point of that is? I've never heard of that before.

No, I do not, though I do keep Borax in a plastic container so it won't get so clumpy.

I keep our Tide on a shelf, sort of pushed in so I don't see the label. Plus, I keep the doors to our laundry room closed.  I wouldn't put a button announcing our brand of dishwasher soap on the dishwasher either - I keep that under the sink.  No one who visits in our house would know what brands we use of those things, you know?

I just hate to do someone else's advertising.  It's okay if I'm weird.  I don't buy shirts that announce brands on them either - shirts that say Old Navy, etc - for the same reason.  Lots of people find that odd.  I can live with it. :)

I think it looks like a good idea for my husband, I was thinking of the laundry detergent. Then he can just push a button instead of remembering to put it on the list. I generally don't do the laundry so I don't think of it. I did laugh when I saw it yesterday though.

Did anyone see the Amazon Home Services? I saw that on Monday. You can order goat grazers with one click ordering. They don't have it in all areas, and some things are not available everywhere. Appliance installation, furniture assembly, tutors, house painting. It is incredible to see how much someone could just buy any item or service they want on Amazon. I hate to think how much I already spend there every month.

No, I get it. I don't buy any clothes that have the store name on the front and I don't put stickers on my car (my daughters dance studio wants me to spend $2 on a sticker to advertise for them, I think not) it just never occurred to me that having products in my home was advertising. I do decant things that are ugly into a pretty container but just because the Dawn bottle is too big and ugly.

I think it's weird and clunky.  Amazon wants to integrate into our homes So Badly, lol, First that Amazon echo thing, always listening, and now brand name tags for around the house?

They are starting to get a bit desperate.

I do have a couple things on subscribe and save, but my local grocery store always beats Amazon on prices. I only subscribe for things I can't get locally.

I'm 100 percent with you on the t-shirts.  For the life of me I've never been able to figure our why I should pay $$ for a t-shirt so I can be a walking billboard for some company.

But containers . . . no, I don't care if the labels show.  And it would be way too much work to transfer stuff to other containers, and make more clutter.

I agree with just about every negative opinion so far expressed, and yet I kind of want it. Sort of like Disney. No redeeming value. But I want it, because shiny! I think I'll exercise some self control and stick with Subscribe & Save for now.

I have my detergent right above the washer so I can just squirt some in with the pump.  It never occurred to me that I was "advertising" the brand, because I'm mostly the only one that goes into the laundry room.  :/

I kind of like the idea of the button, but if it's not cheaper than I can get at Costco then it would have to save me a lot of time and effort to be worth it.

Oh, I would be shocked if it was a joke. It is the Internet of Things, and I think you will only see more and more of this in the coming years. As a matter of fact, I think the Amazon version is pretty clunky, and in years to come we will look back and chuckle about that, much like we do about old cell phones and other technology that are now mainstays in our lives.

edited for some terrible typos. Yeesh.

I'm pretty sure there's a safeguard on the order amount to not allow for extreme button pushing to cause gallons of Tide to be delivered.  Plus, why would anyone put this where their toddler could reach it?  If I had the laundry one, I'd put it up where I keep the detergent.  My kids can't reach it without heroic efforts.  And my cabinets with things like dish soap and stuff are also out of reach or child protected.  I'm actually more worried when I see my 2yo found my phone somewhere than I am about him getting into household cleaning supplies.

It is meant to be placed in a convenient location that is easy to access when one is thinking about it. So laundry detergent would go in the laundry room.

As for out of reach, there was no place out of reach for my son when he was a toddler. I was ever so happy that he seemed to have an aversion for opening drawers. I am slightly envious of anyone who could have a place out of reach.

They have a built in safety net against erroneous ordering. Amazon confirms the order before sending any product, so if it was accidentally ordered you just click their link and stop the order from going through.

It's not just that Amazon wants to integrate into our homes; it really is where technology is headed, I believe. Smart stoves, smart crockpots, smart refrigerators, smart washers and dryers to name a few. Some of these are not quite to production (although most are), but there are companies working very hard on bringing them to a retailer near you. The integration of technology and our everyday lives took huge leaps with the Smart phone. The Internet of Things is a real concept, and it is coming. Not everyone will choose to participate, but I really do think this is where we are headed. Amazon just happens to be the first company you see doing it because they have a huge platform and the a sophisticated warehouse process.

edited because my goodness, I cannot type coherent sentences!

Wait, what? This is real???

In my fantasy world, I would ABSOLUTELY use it!  I'd line up all my favorite product buttons on my pantry door and just click, click, click!

Unfortunately, Amazon does not have the best prices on the items I use most, and I'm not sure I want to pay that much difference for the convenience.  At least not until they design a button with fingerprint recognition.  :w00t:

On one side of my laundry room there is a sink with virtually no counter space, the washer, then the dryer. There are cabinets over everything on that wall. There is nothing on the opposite wall because there is no room. If I wanted to leave any bottle of anything out, it would have to be on the window sill.

I don't think you sound freaky, but I think the practice would depend on the type of storage you have in your laundry room. For many people, there would be no need to transfer detergents as everything is out of sight or everything is in site and there is no hidden storage.
