linders
..George Washington's Mt Vernon, not the town in Washington state. We will be touring Mt Vernon in a few days, and it just dawned on me that it will be Easter Sunday. We won't be eating on the estate, but hope to find a restaurant nearby. Mid-price but still somewhat casual - we won't be in our "Sunday best." Any VA friends know of a place?
G5052
Maybe not what you want, but there's a "Red Hot and Blue" (barbeque) and a "Five Guys" (hamburgers) not far away. We've gone to both of those. I wouldn't think they would be overly busy on Easter.
Chris in VA
Do you want a Sunday Brunch kind of place? You will need to make reservations at a lot of places. What kind of food do you want?
ThisIsTheDay
In the past, I have relied greatly on reviews from TripAdvisor.com, although lately I've been using the restaurant reviews at Yelp. (TripAdvisor's website "updated" and is no longer easy to navigate, but Yelp is!) I don't think you need to worry about not being in "Sunday best." The area is very diverse, and I don't believe you'll run into loads of people celebrating a fancy meal out. We were in the area last Easter and ate at Eden Center, a popular Asian shopping center in Falls Church. If you're looking to try something new, you might look at various ethnic restaurants. We had a BLAST, and we were the only non-Asian people in the restaurant we chose. I picked it ahead of time, based on TripAdvisor reviews. This year, we'll be up there again. We'll be eating at Texas Roadhouse because we got a nice gift card, haha. I haven't even considered that some might be out for a fancier Easter dinner, but we won't be dressed any differently than usual. I hope the weather cooperates for you! *lifeoftheparty*
We go to Mt. Vernon frequently. We love to drive up the road to Alexandria, Va to eat afterwards. The main "drag" has a ton of restaurants. Check tripadvisor and yelp. Sometimes we'll go to the National Harbor afterwards... There's a Nandos there... and a yummy Italian place. Rosa Mexicana is really good too....
SebastianCat
We stayed in Alexandria and visited Mt. Vernon about a year and a half ago. When we were at Mt. Vernon, we just ate lunch at their restaurant on the property. I agree that if you are looking for something else, Alexandria is about a 20-30 minute drive away and has LOTS of restaurant options, many of which would be casual and not "Sunday best" type places. Stacia
If you can pick up/prepare a picnic lunch, there are some gorgeous spots outside Mt. Vernon/along the river for picnics. (You are not supposed to take food into/on the grounds of Mt. Vernon.)
