WTM online conference!!!

These look so good!

The writing one looks useful! (Though shouldn't it say "Everyone Can Teach His Child . . ." instead of "Their Child" ? I think systems differ on whether "everyone" is singular or plural. Or I've been spending too much time with SAT grammar. ) Regardless, I will be attending!   . . . The science one looks interesting, too, as does the Latin mile marker one.

Oh, what a wonderful idea! I'm very excited about this, Susan! Thank you!

I am so excited!!

Definitely doing Beyond Elementary School, How/Why Science Needs to Be Taught Differently, Problem Solving, Taking the Mystery out of Conceptual Math. I think all of those were on my "wish list" on SWB's conference thread! Might throw the Latin one in there too!

I'm trying to decide if ds4 is an "intense child" or not. Is that one of those things that if you're not sure, you don't have one? :D

No. I think if you're not sure it means you *do* have one. You're just so used to it you don't see it as unusual any more.

Sorry. :p

Super cool!  Thanks Susan!! :hurray:

I'll be ready with my raspberry latte and slippers! (Wow I do kinda miss going to conferences but there is just no way . . .so this is so nice to have this option!)

I'm looking at the Difficulties one, the Latin one since we are digging in now, and maybe another one too.

Oh Happy Day!!

Oooh. I'm so excited. I signed up for a couple of the free ones and will grab some others when I've got money.  I'm looking at This Isn't as Easy as I Thought, Beyond Elementary School, and Everyone Can Teach ____ Child to Write.   ;)  Not sure which word goes in the blank, his or their.  ;)  I'm so excited because I <3 Richard Rusczyk and Susan Wise Bauer.  I'm in homeschool heaven.

'Everyone' is indeed singular.

However, for the last couple of decades, it has become common to use 'their' instead of his/her in order to be gender neutral - so I assume that was the intent...

I'm bummed, I don't get to go to any.  They pretty much  all occur while I am at work.  The downside of being a working homeschooler, the few that occur in the evenings conflict with the kids extracurrics.  Things do not wind down her until the end of JUne when school lets out for summer.  Unfortunately this is over before then.  It's not really a summer series since it ends before the first day of summer...it is a spring series.  Very cool options of talks, just bummed to miss out on all the fun.

We do actually have four July workshops available...

If I remember correctly, they will be recorded so you can watch them later if you can't view it during the live session.

My only complaint- I wish there was one flat rate for all of the sessions rather that the $20 groupings.

I think they had to do it that way because there are limited seats for each workshop (100 seats for the paid sessions, 300 for the free sessions) so that requires registration for each individual workshop.

I have a question about pricing. I noticed that Andrew Kern's writing workshop is broken into three sessions over a three week period. (Same for Dr. Nebel's science workshop.) Is it $20 for all three or $20 each? Under the "register" page I only see the first session listed.

I am pretty sure on the home page it said that the price was for three sessions, so the $20 would pay for all three weeks.

I cannot see prices on my phone. Is it my phone or am I looking in the wrong place?

The prices are listed on the registration page and the pages linked from the registration page, but not on the pages linked from the agenda page (which is a bit odd). I would think that they would want to have the prices and number of available seats left listed on all the pages pertaining to each workshop.

I read the sessions will be recorded so you won't be able to ask questions, but you can listen to the speakers.

Thank you so much Susan for doing this! I have been wanting to go to a conference for the past few years but haven't found one that has either been worth the time or expense to travel or that has worked for my schedule. I am so excited to now look forward to a summer of learning!

Guest Longley Branch Homeschool

Looking forward to Latin Ages and Stages- my daughter did so well with Latin but it's soooo different now with my son!  We're getting through Latin Road but it's not fun or interesting to him.  Hoping for some great ideas.

I am really excited!  I registered for quite a few classes as I feel I can use as much help as possible, especially in the teaching writing category.  How long will the recorded sessions be available for viewing?  I am due with number 6 about June 13, so that will most likely effect my ability to attend.

Are there really only 100 seats in the paid sessions? I better decide quickly then. One definite for me is "This Isn't as Easy as I Thought".

The limited seating is making me nervous! I can't register til payday this week, so hopefully the sessions I want are still open in a couple of days.

Some friends and I were just having a discussion, should seating become closed for various sessions, we were thinking of getting together to watch it all together and share the cost. Would be like a mini-conference in our homes - with pj's and wine lol.

Wow, really? Limited seats? Why is that, for an online conference? There is probably some technical reason I'm clueless about, but it changes my strategy as well . . .

My guess would be that they decided to limit it so the 30-40 minutes of Q&A during the paid workshops would be truly interactive. I have been to webinars for my job that had fewer than 100 people in attendance and webinars that had several hundred people in attendance, and they had a distinctly different feel to them. The webinars with smaller attendance allowed for much more discussion and increased the chances of my questions actually getting answered. The webinars with a large number of attendees felt like a college survey course in a large lecture hall, where I was one in a crowd of 500 and the instructor's goal was lecturing, not class participation.

Clear Creek - where did you see the 100 seat thing? Will more speakers be added through the summer?

I'm registered for my Top Picks and holding tight to my cash for others as it gets closer. I might add more depending on space limitations & how the first ones go.

On the registration page for Ed Zaccaro's workshop here it says 100 in stock. It was recently posted (since yesterday), so it looks like no one has registered for it yet. On the Beyond Elementary School workshop registration page here, it says 73 in stock.
