PeterPan
Does it give you more frequent $10 offers? Right now it seems like every other month, as my credits hit 4, it sends me a spend them and get a $10 credit offer. So if I switch to the once a year 24 credit plan, would I get a $10 offer EVERY month?
PeterPan
Ok, I don't understand something. Roll over 12 credits at a time? What does that mean? From month to month or into the next *year* of the yearly subscription? Does that mean I'd have to spend 12 of the 24 the first month I get them?? I found something on audible. Apparently nothing gets lost but they disappear from your view if the total goes too high, and apparently that's only an issue on your renewal date. Pen
I have no answers, but I am toward the end of my trial subscription and want to keep going, so interested in what is recommended to get.
PeterPan
Well I've been doing the 2 credits a month thing. However when you have 4 credits they send you an email with some kind of cool deal. So I was thinking if I ALWAYS had 4 credits, I'd get one of those deals every month, right? And the price per credit would be better ($9 vs. $11). It's really the extra deals that make Audible a deal. Otherwise paying $11 or $12 for a book bites. But when you get half price deals, 99 cent deals, the $10 credit when you use 4 credits, etc., then it works out well. Or maybe I'd STILL run out because I'd use 4 and half way through they'd be gone? And then I'd have spent too much money? Hmm, maybe my logic is messed up, lol. Pen
I'm not sure. I've gotten emails about deals just with my initial 3 month special that I got. But probably they are not as good as what you are getting. Where is the other X-post and did it get any replies? I didn't even know there was a 24 credits per year all at once. So until you posted that I thought I was deciding between 1 per month, 2 per month, or 12 (I think) per year. I am also wondering, psychologically, how the difference works out. We had discussions about what we would spend our credit on each month, and the discussion itself was interesting. If there are a bunch all available at the same time, does it make it all less special and valuable?
PeterPan
It would just save us $50 a year vs. buying the credits at 2 a month. And if it gets you extra deals (because you have 4 credits stored up more often), then all the better. I think they may have improved/changed their deal structure over the years, so the google searching I did didn't turn up much. I now get a $10 offer pretty quickly any time I have 4 piled up. For some reason I do pile them up. Audible just constantly runs these good deals, so it's easy to buy books without using full credits. In some ways you don't need full credits, except when you really want something and you want it NOW and nothing else will do.
Pen
Another thought. Maybe it depends on what you already know you want. If it would just encourage using 4 credits when you are not really ready in order to get the $10 credit, then it seems like it would not be worthwhile so much as pushing you to get things you may not really need or want. But if you already know of several groups of 4 books that you very much want, then it seems like it makes sense... You'd wait for the chances to get 4 at once plus the credit and you'd get what you do know you want, not something you're pushed into getting in order to get the extra $10 credit. ???? PeterPan
You're saying would you blow the credits? I suppose you would. I've started using the wish list more actively, so I can find things I know we were wanting quickly, without stressing. Ds has series he likes, so like last time I went through and got 4 of a series, kwim? If you use the wishlist, it will help.

Pen
Also, would they still give the "use 4 credits get a $10 credit" special deal if you get a year's worth of credits at once? I think I'd do the year at a time if the saving of $50 makes it worth it to you just for that. But not counting on a special deal that may or may not be continued in future or that may or may not exist when you make this other choice of membership--unless you can determine that you would definitely still get that special deal. So, as I would look at it for myself, if getting the price per book to $9 per selection (or whatever it is) is worthwhile for my family for a total of at least 24 selections during the year, then I'd choose that. If not, not.
LaughingCat
I have had Audible sell me credits at a discounted price when a sale was coming up. I don't think I'll do that again -- lots of their 2 for 1 or 3 for 2 sales aren't all that interesting to me. Usually I have more than 4 credits though -- in fact sometimes I think I have a bit of a hoarding mentality towards my credits
Pen
I have a feeling after reading and thinking about this, that I'll probably continue at 1 per month, or maybe do the full year with 12 available at once (if I am right that is an option). But not more than that. I have 2 or 3 items I know I'd like, but unless there are a lot more that we decide on later, for us, it would be being pulled into more than we want or need due to a special offer luring us into something we don't really want or need. Some books that I want have their regular member price less than $9 or $11 anyway.
LaughingCat
yes, I've thought about going down to 1 or going to nothing even -- if I could be assured of keeping my credits I would go to none for a while. I know in the past when I 'quit' it said it would let me keep my credits -but I had spent them already. I am just to wussy to try it - I would be really upset if I lost my credits :crying:

So long as the price you are paying to use those 4 credits, is say each cost you $9 if effect, makes sense as a purchase for the 4 books in the series, as compared, say to the whispersync price or other options you may have for it. Maybe also ask audible itself if the special "use 4 credits, get $10 credit" would still keep coming if you changed to the other program? Actually, if you do find out, I'd like to know. One problem I see is that it isn't part of the contract that you are getting into, it is just a promotion, so no telling even if in past they've given it that it will continue. Pen
Maybe we should compare what "deals" we are being sent when we have 4 credits, or 1 or none?
PeterPan
Thing is, I'm buying for two kids. Dd finally figured out she could listen to TC lectures at 2X speed, hehe...
Pen
The 2 kids aspect probably especially makes the higher number sensible... Then if you get both the $50 less per year by doing it yearly and also the $10 credits every time you use 4 credits at once type deals then that makes a lot of sense. If they don't give those same deals to people who pay by the year, then sticking to the 2/month could give you $10 more in credits yearly than the $50 less cost. Course, if we figure our time is worth something, we may have just used up more than $10 worth of time costs thinking this through. EmilyK
I do the year at a time option. I think the situation is that a couple of times a year they offer a "spend 3 or 4 credits, get $10" to any one who has that many (or more) credits in their account. I'm bummed because I didn't know it was coming (when it got offered this last month) and I had too few credits. Anyway, point being, you don't get it any more or less because of being on the annual plan. The best thing about the annual plan is that your average credit price is lower, and when you run out of credits, they offer you to buy 3 at that same price (slightly over $9). As a result, I don't buy anything with a credit unless it is $10 or more. Twice a year, there's usually a sitewide sale and I buy less expensive titles at that time. Goodreads and mobilereads both have forums that discuss a lot of tips and tricks about audible and other free book offers. I can link to the threads I follow if anyone would find that helpful. For example, to my detriment, I just found out last night about a way you can check on all of your kindle books to see if they have a discounted whispersync price available. I ended up buying several audios.
PeterPan
Emily, sure, list away!! Thanks, because you've clarified what I was trying to figure out! So do you think the buy 3 credits offer *is* in fact usually right before a big sale when you don't have the credits? They just offered them to me, so that's why I was trying to figure out... Yes, I always make things hard, lol. (can't buy 3 because I can't decide if I want to buy 24, lol)
LaughingCat
FWIW when they offered me credits to buy because a sale was coming up -- it wasn't a $10 sale -- it was a 3 for 2 sale.
PeterPan
Yup, the email just came this morning! So they're doing a 3 for 2 and I only have 1 credit, meaning I can't even see the sale. They're still offering to let me buy 3, but I keep quibbling over this thought that I ought to go to the 24/year and be done with it. I'm paying for it already, just paying more than I would if I did it upfront. I guess if I do, then we'll see if I get more $10 coupon offers, hehe... EmilyK
Sorry, no I wasn't clear. Two separate points. If you have a certain number of credits, they offer you that spend 3 or 4, get $10. You don't get that any more or less often if you are on the monthly or annual plan. It is all based on the number of credits in your account at the time. I just happened to miss it this round. I get offered that "buy 3 more credits for $9.50 each" anytime I get down to 1 or zero credits, now that I'm on the annual plan. I always get offered it now that I'm on the annual plan. (it sits up there as an option next to where it lists my credits.) http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3015981 http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2146170-audible-offers-2015---january-to-march These are good threads
